Nascar

Smokey Yunick and the 7/8th Chevelle ...... :applause:
Re the COT, it at least looks like a racing car, the only way I could pick the cars pre-dating it was by the 'manufacturer's' name on the nose.
To me, the past 5 years of NASCAR body shells looked like they belonged on a drag strip in the 'Funny Car' category.
:isadizzy:

Beat me to it Wombat!

The cars look and sound nothing like the stockers of old. Engines are smaller and higher revving. Instead of 43 cars cracking thunder, these days you get 43 cars whining.

But NASCAR needs to double-check its roots, their acronym's 'SC' means "Stock Car" and what is put on the track to rip people of their wallets is anything but a "Stock Car".

as an ex driver ( many years in many division) i like the COT and its purpose.i do like the days of the great cheats like smokey (loved him) and johnson, just to name a few..and dont try to tell me they didnt cheat..i started in hobby stocks and even i cheated...lol...its a part of racing...whats chad knouse call it?...creative thinking? or something?

anyway i do like todays racing..its that same as the ASA cars of the 80s or the late models i drove....you basically had a body choice..but the chasis was the same car to car..COT took it a step farther and made the bodies the same for compitition...and look what it did....it brough the truly good drivers to the front..carl edwards, gregg biffle, jimmy johnson,KYLE BUSH....wheres everyones loverboi jr?.....hes back in the back proving he doesnt belong on that pedistal everyone put him on when his dirty driven daddy died..talk about a martyer...Dale would NOT have done well in the COT..the cars are to equal..not enough room to "massage them" and they are harder to bumb n spin...he would not have been as successfull.....and if you think about it..without wrecking waltrip.lebonte, wallace and others...there are many races he would have been the first looser...
im done raning

The very first thing that springs to mind re 'Stock Car' and the misuse of the term would be the Chevrolet 'Porcupine' (accepted by NASCAR) and the Ford 427 SOHC (rejected by NASCAR) ....... :kilroy:
I've been re-reading Leo Levine's two volume 'The Dust and the Glory' history of Ford and motorsport .... again.

Sheesh Dave, we even cheated in Aurora Ho scale GTX slot racers! :icon_lol:

Gum the tires, lower the magnets, drill out the chassis, anything to gain an advantage. :ernae:

LoL...when I was a kid, 2 friends of mine had this "secret tire traction" (liquid in a bottle) that they'd put on their AFX cars every once in a while.....Torqued the heck out of me 'cause they never told me what it was!

That would probably been 'Silslix' by Cox, unless you're talking about those weird sponge rubber 'tyres' that came into vogue when the slotties began to look very odd!
We banned the bloody stuff because it made our track almost impossible to drive on 'normal' tyres!
Now I feel very old ........... :kilroy:
