Nationalities

Dasuto247,

Here is my callsign.dat file. I have done some of my own over the years when needed. The first numbers in the callsign.dat file correspond with the nationality.

If you want some quick-and-dirty New Zealand callsigns...I just name them after cities, frequently.

# New Zealand Aircraft
Napier-Hastings,9,1
Tauranga,9,1
Hamilton,9,1
Auckland,9,1
Wellington,9,1
Christchurch,9,1
Kiwi,9,1
Dunedin,9,1
Nelson,9,1
Rotorna,9,1
Palmerston North,9,1

Copy and paste these and place them in the callsign.dat file I just attached between the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (#8) and Australia. (#10)

Thanks. Happen to know any resources to look up names for New Zealand warships to add in? Now that I know what the numbers mean, makes this easier.

In the MISC_DATA section of the aircraft .dp file, you also want to make sure (especially for quick combat; this controls which voice is used) that the nationality is correct for the aircraft / skin you are using. The number in the highlighted section corresponds directly with the nationality number in the country.cfg file.

This one, for example, is of a British nationality.

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=1
max_group_size=8
min_speed=175
cruise_speed=310
max_speed=438
min_alt=50
cruise_alt=2200
max_alt=8300
entered_service=1/1/39
crew=2

Hmm I changed it 10 for Australian in the misc data section, AI still speaks in American voice when I am flying American but have australian planes in area.I shot them down so would hear radio chatter, turned engine volume off make sure heard them correctly.Anything else I need to do? The number corresponds correctly in country.dat. The short name is set to AUS.Also, I set the New Zealand short name to Aus, so it should use australian chatter as well?

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=1
category=1
allegiance=10
max_group_size=8
min_speed=86
cruise_speed=235
max_speed=352
min_alt=50
cruise_alt=14575
max_alt=28000
entered_service=5/12/40
crew=1

Also, if I change the max group size to say 12, mean I could have planes in my flight?

Dasuto247,

I'm almost 100% sure that the plane you fly discates the sounds (voice pack) you hear. If you are flying American, it may not matter that your wingmen or the other AI flights are Aussies. But I can't say this with certainty. Does anyone else know?

Kelti - Despite the disappointment expressed, it's probably not "annoying" enough for Roxanne-21 to spend some time making a "proper" french voice pack so we can marvel at the difference in accent ... :a1451:

Good Grief guys, it was offered for free :dejection:

Note that I was not complaining...
This pack is probably much welcome for non-French-speaking pilots, who won't hear the difference. I use the stock USA or BRI voice packs for every English-speaking nationalities, just because I cannot hear the difference between US, British or Australian accents.

I don't have the skills and/or tools to make my own French voice pack, but if you have both I will be glad to lend you my voice. Just give me a full list of which sentences a voice pack is made of (in English), and I will record the French translations for you.

:wavey:

You are right.
If you are flying as an American, your allies will have an American voice, even if there are actually Australian or British. And if you are flying as a German over North Africa, your Italian allies will speak German as well.

If you can't tell the difference of the American accent from that of a British or Austrailian. Then you have never heard the deep southern drawl. I can tell what part of the south or mid west someone is from just by their accent. Kinda like Pygmalion. Though not that good.

If you were to listen to Rami and I on Skype you would here the difference. Ask Rami to say "Car" sometime. You'll laugh your head off. These damn yankees don't know how to say it. LOL :biggrin-new:

When my wife and I were first married, she would make fun of me. Becuase I say Idear instead of Idea. Until she heard someone else from down south say it. Now she just laughs when I do. She is a yankee too. LOL

Ah, that's unfortunate.Thanks for the info.

My bad. Still a yankee. :biggrin-new:

I think you have to drop the "R" in yahrd. Then you'll sound like a Bostonian. Or a Maineah. You should hear them downeast. Talk about a thick new england accent.

Anyways its interesting how the same language can sound so different no mater what it is.

I spent 3 months with a British unit on the east/west German border back in the eighties. The accents were no trouble at all except for one Scot. It took a while, but after a few weeks I could even understand him. By the time I left, I was using their slang frequently and well.

What determines the language spoken in the pilot's chatter is here, in the country.cfg file:

[country.1]
name=Britain
short_name=BRI
nationality=British
heading=oclock

[country.2]
name=Germany
short_name=GER
nationality=German
heading=bearing

[country.3]
name=USA
short_name=USA
nationality=American
heading=oclock

The voice pack dedicated files are in the root \SOUNDS\RADIO folder, *.gvr, *.gvi and *.gvt files. The first three letters of the filename indicate nationality (BRI, GER, JAP, USA, etc.).

as per Erufle's install instructions:

"This tells the sim to use the radio call gvr, gvi, and gvt files that have this three letter prefix (as in spn01)."

Nationality comes from [country.X], this number ties to the aircraft allegiance=, found in each aircraft dp file.

If an aircraft allegiance=1 their pilot will speak English with British accent, if =2 they will speak German, if =3 US English, if =4 Japanese and so on.

For the sake of creating havoc, you can replace for example the short name GER with JAP in country #2. All of Luftwaffe pilots will speak Japanese!

Thanks.Solved those issues but now the problem is when I am flying USA and have australian planes around, their radio chatter is in American accents, but when fly an Aussie plane, chatter is clearly Aussie accent.Suppose there is no way around it, that is what have been told.

Same rule applies to the Aussies.

[country.10]
name= Australia
short_name=AUS
nationality=Australian
heading=oclock

The radio chatter should have a aus infront of the name like so...

aus01.gvr

You should then hear the Australian radio chatter. Right now you probably have USA for the short name. so give that a try.

Darn' right John,

but you didn't acknowledge my pure Yankee form of writing yes.....boy I'm upset! :biggrin-new: Having lived for over 7 years in Milford, CT, I deserve, at least, a certificate of Yankee-dom brotherhood! :biggrin-new::very_drunk:

Cheers!
