Natural Tree Environment X

I wonder how those fit in the northern parts of Europe - I mean Scandinavia and northern parts of Russia?

The FSX default trees are about right type but far too tall. Perhaps coniferous forests are as tall as in FSX somewhere in the northern America (I don't know) but here trees are much smaller (in average). Another thing is that the density of trees in FSX isn't as thick even with the maximum autogen setting as it is here in reality. In FS2004 there ware some nice replacement trees (made by couple of my countrymen - available still on FSNordic's site I think) that fit perfectly here in Scandinavia but haven't found any for FSX.

I am just trying Natural Tree Environment X. Quite like it. Impressed with jungle area's particularly. Here's a collection of Skandinavion screens with this new trees and foliage set installed. Few close-ups together with houses for comparison. This with all sliders at max. There's an option to use either medium or high res textures. This is medium. FTX Global active.

This concludes my Skandinavian tree top flying trip. Hope it is of some use to you, Pekka. Let us know your verdict. ;-)

Well, looks nice and tree density is quite good. However hight of the trees (in average) is still too much. If you launch GoogleEarth and take street view from some road near EFJO (or anywhere in Finland), you can find it with your own eyes.

Hmmm, the size (esp. height) of the trees would be the most important thing to me (the overly big trees being my biggest gripe with default autogen)... Perhaps if they added the ability to choose the tree size (as well as texture resolution) when one installs them...

Does anyone know when the 30% off offer ends??

Andy

I think this seems to be a problem with trees wherever they are Andy.. that or the buildings are wrong. Rarely does anything look 'right' and in my opinion.. the trees are the culprits. They're generally just too darned big:(

If I do not like, can it be uninstalled without causing any issues to FSX?
Thanks
Rick

Zintertek DOES include an Uninstaller, which is in the Natural Tree subdirectory in your FSX, P3D, and in my case, FSX-S install.

The trees look great! And their customer service is responsive as well. NC

Anybody got some shots of autumn foliage for this? I don't really mind if the trees are a bit oversized, but I'm always looking for some bright, vivid autumn colours as that's my favourite time of year to fly both in FS and in the real world...

Certainly in the close-up shot of the Beaver over Orsa village there's not *one* tree to see that is too big or too tall. Perfectly true to life IMHO. Trees used for woods and forests are a lot bigger/taller indeed but that's true in real life as well, isn't.

I'm afraid that if Zinertek replied to the comments about the trees being too big by making them smaller they'd get comments about the trees being too small in no time... :teapot:

I'm keeping 'em ! :encouragement:

We need to remember that the tree update is on the textures only. The 3d model is default. The size of the trees are the same as default, and go with the specific annotation on the landclass tiles. And exactly these are the culprit for trees being not of the right size or type. Not Zinerteks fault.

I installed it and think the 1024 trees really look good (on P3dv2.4)!

Cheers,
Mark

I don't think anyone was saying the Zinertek trees look too big Mark.. but trees in general. Certainly, this was what I meant. Not only the default trees either. I rarely fly anywhere outside the UK and here, I use GenX with EarthSims Treescapes. These aren't autogen but placed scenery objects and these too suffer the same problem.

The Zinertek tree textures look great but I honestly don't think it would be worth me buying them as I only fly in ES Treescapes areas. I had a look at the info and there was no mention of Treescapes compatibility (or being able to change their textures) so it would be a pointless purchase for me. If someone finds out otherwise.. I'd take another look;)

I had an installer issue in P3D.

Their support was right on it and I got a successful install.

Great customer support.

But isn't it like trees models are setup as rectangular poly's ? The texture that is applied to these poly's holds an image of a tree with the surrounding area made transparent by pure black, right ? ( that's why spinning props and canopies of FS9 port-over aircraft models dissapear not only behind clouds but also behind trees while on the ground). So that would make it possible to decide about the height of a tree by the texture only, wouldn't it. While the tree models (i.e. the poly's) stay the same the height and width of the tree can be adjusted by just the texture. A tree cannot be made taller than the height of the trees' poly's of course but it can be made shorter...

Mind you, i never endeavoured trees design but i believe that's how it works. Correct me if i'm wrong. :teapot:

That's right, Javis, theoretically you could make a smaller tree like that. However, this works only on trees that don't have horizontal planes in them, which are fixed on a certain height. Most trees have these horizontal planes so they don't look like an X from above. If you make a smaller tree texture here you'll end up with the canopies floating in the air.
The other problem with using smaller textures could be that if anyone reworks the autogen annotation with the correct tree sizes (default) the result would be dwarf trees, given that the change of size is consequently done.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks NC for the reply

Ok, yes, i see, Mark. They stand out pretty much when flying at treetop from spot view. If you know about them, which i didn't... :)

Been doing some more treetop flying all over the place and keep being very impressed. Does seem to me that, overall, trees do seem to be smaller than before. I was wondering what would happen if i checked the FTX Central 'Use Orbx Trees' box... The NTE X trees are replaced instantly by Orbx trees. They are very different, some are pretty nice too, particularly deciduous trees. If you ask me they are bigger/taller then the NTE X trees at average.

Thanks for the tip about these horizontal planes. :)
