Natural Tree Environment X

I use GenX with EarthSims Treescapes. These aren't autogen but placed scenery objects and these too suffer the same problem.

The Zinertek tree textures look great but I honestly don't think it would be worth me buying them as I only fly in ES Treescapes areas. I had a look at the info and there was no mention of Treescapes compatibility (or being able to change their textures) so it would be a pointless purchase for me. If someone finds out otherwise.. I'd take another look;)

Hello:

AFAIK, Earth Simulations "Treescapes" custom autogen trees are newly-created 3D models with custom mapped texture sets; they are distinct from any of the FS default autogen trees, and do not map their textures onto the default 3D FS tree 'objects' used for autogen on default land class type scenery.

IIUC, Earth Simulations "Treescapes" custom autogen trees are placed via *an.agn files using specific "alternate land class series file names" which ensure that they only work on "custom" photo-real scenery ground texture areas, and NOT FS 'default' or other (ex: GEX or FTX) "standard land class type" ground textures.

The Treescapes objects are sourced from a standard scenery object library (which can be separately placed by end users via Instant Scenery etc.), but the trees "out-of-the-box" are placed via autogen methods ...rather than BGLComp XML methods.

BTW: Users of Treescapes are advised to make an "ESI-Pack" for their existing product installation immediately to reduce risk of no longer being able to install and activate their product(s) after the Earth Simulations servers go completely offline (perhaps as early as the end of January 2015 ?). :pop4:

Although the Earth Simulations knowledge base articles are currently still available, the proprietor has indicated in several FS forums that this availability may end very soon, and it it is uncertain as to whether "Flight Store" in the UK may continue to operate any activation or knowledge base server on behalf of the former Earth Simulations product line.

Hope this helps ! :untroubled:

I think it confirms what I already knew Gary but thanks for posting as it may well help others. I'm not sure that making ESI packs is the full answer to 'keeping' ES products rolling along as ESI checks online for updates every time you install a pack. What will happen when there's nowhere for it to check?

But that's another story;)
