Has anyone else been following?

I'm super-thrilled and hoping it comes to full fruition.

Up to my knowledge, it is a payware project. Most of the ships are now available as freeware, many of them here at soh. So the main advantage of the package (if I´m not wrong) will be the inclussion of AI traffic files.

Anyway, I am very interested in the Whidbey Island (LSD 41) included in the package, I love that class of ships

Somewhat true, yes. If you like googling and assembling and repainting, you could probably recreate 65% of this project on your own, for free. It would take weeks or months to do every hull repaint, probably, depending on your level of proficiency. Even then, there would still be about a half dozen classes of ships that you would be missing, maybe more (7 or 8 even?).

There is not a current version freeware version, to my knowledge, of the Reagan and George HW Bush carriers -- slight differences, but still. And there are two classes (flights) of Arleigh Burke Class DDG models. And there are two, not one, classes of LSD that are not available anywhere. Plus subtenders, oilers and resupply ships, the Blue Ridge class LCC ships and the LHA-6 America. Not sure, I might have even missed some others.

And there are animations, such as well deck doors and elevators, that function on demand, not ambient animations.

Plus a nice helping of saved flights on deck, and TP scenario files.

Plus whatever else we decide to add for free over time.

If things are so, it wil be great to wait for the release of the package. Any ship project is always great news for many of us.

I have to say I think Ripcord's project is an excellent idea. We have communicated and tested to make the Navy AI ship traffic and my predominantly civil traffic match. To compile and test AI ship routes is much more complicated than AI air traffic as every route needs to be tested seriously or ships will end on land or collide or not move together in the right pattern. I have benefited from the contributions of a big team of freeware developpers and people helping with tests. If not my project would simply not have been possible as it is far too time consuming unless you do it as a job.
