NAVAL AIR MUSEUM, PENSACOLA

I see the USS Lexington's old C-1A Trader COD aircraft is still there in it's bicentennial paint. I rode in that one once.
 
I finally made it down to the museum in November. Spent two full days browsing around and shooting pics. Several of the planes/helos that were shown parked outside in beana51's link have now been moved inside the "Hangar Bay One" building behind the museum. The displays in HB1 cover the 1950's (Cold War), Vietnam, the space program, Coast Guard aviation, and Iraq/Afghan ops. I can't say enough good things about the museum and the museum staff who are very knowledgeable. If I lived in or near P'cola I'd be there all the time, probably as a tour guide. :)
 
I am planning a trip up there, either next week, or the week after. I have a friend (a retired Master Chief) who volunteers at the museum, and last time I was there, he gave me a personal tour of the museum, including the restoration hangar, which the public doesn't get to see.

That museum is WHY I go to Pensacola. It is AWESOME!!!

White Sand and Airplanes...What a Combo!

Thank you for sharing those pictures. Some of them bring back a 'boat load' of memories (T-2s, T-39s, TA-4s and S-3s.....wooowhooo). I've been away from P'cola for too long and after seeing those pictures I know I need to go back there. The museum was good back in the day, but now it looks great! (Being from one of the northern states, I never tasted 'grits' until I arrived in P'cola for AOCS!) Memories.....
 
While en route to a TDY assignment in 1993, I stopped by and spent a day there. It looks even better now. I don't recall all the WW I biplanes and it looks like they've rebuilt the building nicely following it's damage from a hurricane a while back.
