The on-base clubs are taking a beating though. They are nowhere near as popular or as good a deal as they used to be. At most bases, clubs are now all ranks. I do see this change as a vast improvement.
Many of the CPO clubs have been reduced to "CPO bars", annexes to the existing EM clubs with access limited to Chiefs only. Most of the ones I've been in are small with limited hours (the Oceana CPO club closes 7:00 PM), and very little nautical/aviation atmosphere. Still, it is a great privilege to be a Navy Chief Petty Officer and be able to lift a brew at even the most podunk CPO club in the Navy!Only NCO clubs we have in the Navy are for the E-7 through E-9. Never been in one, but hopefully some day will see what it is all about.
