Hi All

Have been fiddling about with things again lately and have knocked up this repaint for the freeware ALPHASIM EE lightning T.5 for fs02/cfs2 (with fs9 FDE patch) but I've got a couple of issues the first is I was wondering how to go about making the model support reflective textures I know this has been done for AS models before like the Valiant upgrade that was released over at Britsim a few months ago but I have no idea how its done. Does anyone know if there's a patch for this aircraft that remedies this issue? If I try to add any kind of alpha channel it just shows up transparent.

Unfortunately that model, and the rest of the freeware Lightnings, are too old to be tweaked for specular shine or reflectivity. Some time back I tried tweaking those models and found that they are non-tweakable.

Tim, I know you mainly use MDLmat for that task - did you try with Shine (or Shiny)?

I never ran into a model that couldn't be shined or reflectorized (or un-shined or un-reflected) with Shine(or Shiny).

But then, there's a first time for everything...

Mick,

Obio is correct, some models are just to old to be shined or reflected. For that to happen the models must have materials as assigned in GMax, FSDS2.x, etc. Earlier AF/FSDS1.x models for FS2000/2, etc do not have these properties, and although may work in latter sims they tend to be the ones with missing props/gear/etc. The tech used is just to many stages to old. Proper CFS2/FS2002 models should be fine, the problem is the older models from CFS1/FS2000 still work okay in them and are often touted as for those sims even though they are older. So only 'proper' CFS2 FS2002/4 models can be shined and reflected.

The only way I could think to do this would be to reverse engineer them back into GMax/FSDS and rebuild them as native FS9 birds, probably more hassle than merited.

Jamie.

PS. I had a tute for adding reflections in the Sim Wiki, but that seems to have vanished (the wiki, and the tute)

Thanks for the help Guys I shall have to persevere I'll make a few adjustments and may release it soon.
