Need Some Help w/ FSX Re-install

jmbiii

SOH-CM-2025
My installation of FSX went south. Never could find the problem, so my last resort was to uninstall and reinstall.
I have backups of all my addons - scenery, aircraft, utilities.
I uninstalled everything FSX (had it installed on a separate drive - E) , cleared everything FSX related on C: drive, scoured the registry, etc.

When I run setup (as administrator) it now only gives me a choice to "Repair" or "Uninstall". And insists on installing on C: drive.
I don't want FSX on C: nor have space on C: for it !
I have tried every way I know and still cannot get an install back to E:. :fatigue: Help !

Win 7 64
FSX Gold + Acceleration

It sounds like the old install left something behind. I'd try selecting the uninstall option then see what happens. If it accepts it (which I doubt it will knowing FS!!).. all well and good. You should then be able to go ahead and reinstall it where you wish.
I also got caught out with the install location last time I reinstalled FSX. I didn't notice the option button and before I knew it.. it was off installing on C: drive!

Good luck;)

Yep. Already tried "Uninstall". The original Uninstall evidently uninstalled the uninstall.exe. LOL

I recall having this happen more than once. If memory serves right (and it doesn't always), I ended up being forced into doing a VERY BASIC install to C, as it demanded, then running through the unistall AGAIN!
Good luck with it. There's SOOOOO much stuff that MS didn't get right with FSX:dizzy:

I uninstalled from the one in the FSX directory. Then the setup.exe on the disc also gives that option. Neither evidently remove everything.

I'll give the basic install to C: a try. Then another uninstall.:dizzy:

EDIT: Nope. Not enough space on C: for an install.

Make sure the following folders are deleted as well

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

After that, reboot and do a cleanup of your registry using Ccleaner or another freeware tool to clean it.

After that, you should be fine.

#Dumonceau - I've done the steps you suggested many times. Still getting the same result. :dizzy:

I may have to fall back to FS9. It still runs on it's dedicated drive. Maybe next year . . . . . . . . .

Success !

#Dumonceau - Thanks ! Read through the last links you provided. The Microsoft Fix-it didn't. So I started with step one of the PMDG link. Went through the registry and deleted any entry of third party installs that referenced FSX. Cleaned up the leftovers, rebooted and at 22:48 local, crossed my fingers yet once again.
FSX started a clean install - to drive E: ! :applause: Reinstalled Acceleration and SDK. :encouragement:
Started FSX, loaded up a Cessna and took a short flight around the pattern of my local airport. Everything worked ! :triumphant:
Now the tedious part of reinstalling my four years worth of FSX addons. :fatigue:

That is more than useful and i would like to suggest to add this to the "FSX Guide" or "FSX Tweaks".
So it will available for everyone for later problems.
Mike

Guys,

It is/was my pleasure! And indeed, I'll post those links in the FSX guide/tweaks board so that it is there for all!

Take care,

Dumonceau/Johan (my real first name)
