Need Virtavia B-29 screenshots please

Based on your recommendation, I'll go ahead and pick up a copy. Maybe, I should pickup two copies, and send one over to Virtavia....:santahat:

Nice idea-- probably wouldn't budge Phil though (The biggest challenge you and I face is the reality of how few sales a B-50 product might generate...if A2A won't take the 377 and leverage it into a B-50, I don't know who would).

The trouble with Flight sim is that it seems people (I'm NOT one of them) tend to get excited about WWII stuff.

I have an idea re: another developer though...let you know what I find out

Thought I would add something to the list of items on the B-29.

The radar dome on the underside of "Enola Gay" seems out of proportion. It appears to be wider and deeper (e.g., larger) than it should be.

According to what I found on the web: "The radar antenna for this unit was housed inside a retractable 30-inch hemispherical radome located between the bomb bays and protruding below the fuselage a couple of feet when extended."

That doesn't look like 30 inch diameter, or does it?? :salute:

Thanks

No color pictures except the cover....

That said however, it is simply wonderful detail-wise. There are TONS of B&W photos--exterior, interior and detail, excerpts from technical drawings, tech data excerpts, Boeing line drawings....

If you want a "coffee table" book of high resolution color photos, you would obviously not like it.

If you are a B-50 junkie and want to know loads and loads of details on the airplane and all of it's variants (and don't mind B&W photos), you'll LOVE it.

Thanks Kent , Think i'll have to get this one for the shelf , sound like my kind of read and resource, back to the Amazon Jungle i say .. might puruse other titles regard to paint plan template , always find it hard to buy one only book .. only to kick ya self :icon_lol:

That shape of this aircraft is just so cool! :)

That one has a slightly different front glass.

Here is a good picture of the underside of the Enola Gay. From what I've read there are some variations in the size of the underside radome between later versions of the B-29, but at least you can make a comparison with the image I posted earlier.

It appears that the actual dome has a smaller diameter and is slightly darker in color.

PS - This is not a criticism of the Virtavia aircraft, but just for discussion. If there is any effort to update the models, I'm just bring this to their attention for consideration.

Looking at the screenshots that are now being posted, it looks like the rear bomb bay wasn't fixed either, though I stand to be corrected.

I've seen photos/drawings of two different radar domes under there. Some are larger (very visible) and some are smaller. And one looked like a spoiler off the trunk of your hot rod. The earlier ones were larger and semi-retractable. Before you break out the tape measure which version is the 30-inches referring to -- the larger earlier one or the later smaller one? I don't know. I do assume one accurate measurement is that the fuselage at the widest section was 9 ft. 6 in. or 114 inches. Take away 30 inches and that is 84. Applied evenly to each side of a 30-inch radome is 42 inches -- one foot more than a 30-inch radome diameter. Looking at the model and if 30 inches refers to the larger earlier radome then it might be a big oversized. Anyone know the diameter of both radome sizes?
:ernae:

Been thru my library here , wonder if there is any size info and detail in that book Kent mentioned ?

Other than that do ...

How we got the correct measure on astro-dome on Derek Palmers DH-104 Devon was to to get up there and measure it ;) now dose anybody no somebody who can get up to Enola and measure her :icon_lol: <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><input jscode="leoInternalChangeDone()" onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

The book I mentioned is the B-50...vs. the B-29. You're talking about the B-29 radar radome measurements, right?

Was mentioning the radome measures for the B-29 .. Ok the Book B-50 V 29 , - a thought the B-36 may have used that radar type early in its development course even the early Neptune , they may shed some light on the whiz box's use as very close to the era both these have dim's , silly me contents of me brain case went walky bouts .

Cheers Kent

EDIT: Another thought was the later warring B-17s had ball turrets removed and replaced radar - wonder if we could find a connection and measures . Cripes I'm cooking now .
