AI engine sounds

AI engine sounds on the runway sounds like they are reving at full throttle and in my back pocket! I loaded in Lawdogs CFS2 AI sounds, but must not have done them right. More help please!
Thanks.

I can obviously use the settings "effects" and turn it lower, but it lowers the effects of all the sounds-- guns etc. i thought there might be a way to reduce the AI engine sounds. I noticed that the same is true in any of my CFS2 theatre installs.

Hi HP,
You can also remove the ai sound file. If you think about it, you would not be able to hear any other sounds except your own engine/prop/radio/gun/wind noise (gliding, no engine) and maybe gun-fire/explosion if an ac was very close to you.

There are several ai sounds, so you can customise what sounds you hear. Look in the main SOUND file, also ai sound file.

Personally I limit sounds, which makes it much more realistic but maybe not as the makers wanted you to experience.

Cheers Shessi

Yes, it´s really annoying hearing full revs engines the minute you start a mission with your own engine still off.

I like the sound of my AI wingmen engines when they form up after take of or after a furball (specially when no one went down) and sometimes you can hear your attacker cannons before you see tracers or bullets trashing your newly painted skeen.

I don´t have experience in formation flying so may be this couldn´t be heard in real life. But I remember hearing other airplanes sounds in the queue before take off.

Highpockets, you're right. Wingmen sounds on the runway are annoyingly loud. The wave file for that sound is cl3_ext1, located in your main Sound folder. It can be replaced with any sound you like, but those AI sounds of mine are old, and in need of replacement anyway. I'll try to have some new ones up today. (Hopefully)

New AI sounds have been uploaded, and are awaiting approval. These sounds are more realistic IMHO, sounding less like an aircraft in your lap, but still loud enough to hear. They should be much better when on the runway with wingmen, flying in formation, or when engaged in a furball. Happy flying! :wavey:

I replaced the wave file cl1_ext with an original of the same name from an unmodified CFS 2 install and that helped with the AI sounds.

Lawdog2360,

Thank you so much for these, I have approved them, they're ready for uploading.

Thanks Lawdog! Didn't mean to put anyone to work. I have been an appreciative "user" of this sim and not a contributer and still a learner.

WOW!!!

That was really fast! Thank you Lawdog. Do you have a radar for anything that has to do with sounds?

I haven´t downloaded yet but will do now.

When CFS2 uses a plane as AI it switches its sounds from the aircraft sound folder (wich ever direction it has been alliased to) to the general sound folder?
So all we have to do is change this file?

Fortunately every day I have something new to learn. The day I do not learn something new I will know I´m already dead!

Cheers, Discus

Discus....Yes, AI aircraft all use one of the sounds from the main Sound folder. Bandits use cl1_ext, wingmen cl3_ext1, bombers cl3_ext2, and jets cl4_ext.

Thanks a lot LD. Some time ago I changed one of this sound files and my wingmen kept sounding like they were in an eternal fly past loop, again and again, even though they were flying in a steady formation with my plane. But I coudln´t remember wich was the file I had changed. Now I will know.
