NEW CFS2 World LOD 5 Mesh by Rhumbaflappy!

Hey Rhumba,

Just what LOD is the highest detail default mesh in CFS2, LOD7 or LOD9?

I thought it was 9 but from reading your last two post I think my thinkin' is wrong.

Also could you please clarify this:

"Once the LOD7 set is uploaded, I would remove all default and addon mesh"

I can see removing add-on mesh but won't these files "replace" the default native CFS2 LOD7 Mesh?

Rhumba: will sDc's coastlines, roads and rivers work with this new scheme?
from the sound of it I would have to guess no?

Thanks for all your great work!:friday:

I only see 16 of the 18...... Did I miss something... besides the boat....

Looks like the last two are still in the Que.

There is some LOD9 mesh in the default CFS2, but it was made from old Gotopo 30 arc second data and of poor detail. The LOD7 I made would probably be better in all cases... but because the default LOD9 is oversampled at LOD9, it will override the better mesh I made at LOD7. Sounds simple, right?

The higher the LOD sampling, the more dominance it has in display.

That's why I would remove ( or deactivate by renaming the file extension ) the default mesh. The default meshes would have a 9 in them like this:
'guam9.bgl', just before the .bgl filename extension.

This is just mesh, so the default water masking and shorelines should work pretty good, including Sander De Cocq's watermasks and shores ( derived from FS2004 ).

I'm now working on some new watermasking along with LOD9 mesh, that would NOT work with the default watermasking and shores, nor would it work with SDC's masks and shores, nor would it work with any flattens ( including my own that were made years ago ).

These sets would be 2-3 weeks away at least. They will have LOD9 mesh, water masks and flattens. I plan to make sets to cover all the default pacific theatre files.

Thank you so much Sir!

Thank you very much Rhumba!

I have been fighting with elevation mesh files downloaded from everywhere, Simviation's for FS2002/04, Rolf Triebel, Gaia, you name it... for almost four years now!

The default mesh si really poor, and I got enthusiastic when I started seeing more detailed mountain peaks and hills, but then addon meshes "shifted" the elevation, so I started seeing weird things like still "tsunamis" near the coast lines, especially around PTO islands, that coast flattening wouldn't cure for love or money and airfields "buried" in the mesh.

I became an expert in doing "flattening" switches for each scenery install in the scenery.cfg just to avoid airfields surrounded by high cliffs....

I truly hope your work will cure all of the above!!! :jump:

Cheers!
