New CPU?

I have a question, right now I am running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz processor. Would I see a lot of improvement in FSX if I changed to a E8400 3.16 ghz or a E8400 3.0ghz processor? I got some money for Christmas and I was thinking about upgrading my processor. Or I could upgrade my graphics card which is an Nvidia 8600 GTS 512MB. Which would be best?
 
First what chipset are you running? If its a 965 chipset it will be a hit or miss depending on manufacturer of the board if there is a BIOS update to run the newer 45nm cpu's. If your running p35 or newer go with the cpu as fsx is more depended on the cpu then gpu.

You mean you have a Q6600? I would think you might get a little increase as the front side bus is faster and it's better architecture.

You could try overclocking the 6600, I have seen some inpressive OCing with that CPU.
 
Ye upgarde the cpu will hope more the the video card also if you cna get 1066 meg ram if your mobo supports it that helps too, but you may have to manually set it up as i had to on my sons pc.

Yes I have a P965 chipset and my board is an ASUS P5B SE
 
Well if you have a q6600 overclocking it would be a better option, although you can put a newer 45nm cpu in there with a BIOS update according to Asus website. :applause: This also includes the newer quad core cpu's. (socket 775)

Year ago I bought E8200 C2D and OC it from 2,6 to 3,2. It works perfectly. It was a very good decision.
 
I just upgraded from an E-6750 to a Q-9550. I can see the difference.

I had to upgrade the BIOS on my motherboard. Everything else remained the same.
