New EE Canberra series coming soon

Hello all,

I thought I'd start a thread on my upcoming new series of EE/BAC Canberra models for FS2004; work on the freeware portion of this is approaching completion, and I hope to have it for release within the next two months. For the record, the freeware release will encompass the B.2 variant, in the forms of early, classic, late and prototype B.2 models. They will feature a VC and several paint schemes, along with a paintkit and some other goodies. Details on the later payware models will be available at www.flyingstations.com

There will be a beta test prior to release, but I haven't sorted that out entirely yet. Feedback welcome as always, and I will post more updates soon once I lock the VC down a little more.

Cheers,

Steve

Wow...

The EE Canberra / Martin B-57 are my all time favorite aircraft. Looking an the wips my first thought was holy crap!...this looks like it may be the mest FS9 model / paints yet!
:applause:

Hi Steve,

What models will be free and what models wont?
Also will these be FSX compatible, not native?
And finally, what will be the ballpark price?

Sorry for all the questions but your WIPS are looking good.

P.S. Are you using 3D gauges or not?

Thanks chaps, your comments were very kind. To answer your questions (and I hope this doesn't violate forum rules on payware advertising):

FREEWARE:

The freeware release will consist of only the aforementioned B.2 models. Essentially these have different loadouts and cosmetic details relevant to the varying B.2s over their decades of service, but their respective flight models fully reflect this.

PAYWARE:

Payware...these are hard times for all of us, so the prices will be affordable - most likely about $5 per download pack, which will each contain roughly four models, assorted repaints and paintkit. I'm planning about 10 packs total, including the freeware B.2 pack. At this time, they are tentatively planned and named:

Alpha Canberras: B.1 pack
Tried and Tested: B.2 pack
Trainers: Duel Control pack
Bomber Power: B.6/15/16 pack
Eyes in the Sky: PR.3/7 pack
Tugs & Trainers: pack 1
Tugs and Trainers pack 2
Exports. 1: Argentina
Exports. 2: Peru, Ethiopia., Australia, Rhodesia
Exports. 3: USA (bubble canopy models only, sorry, no tandems for now)
Master of Tasks: Experimentals pack

The plan is, you won't necessarily want all of these, hence you pick and choose the packs that suit you at a reasonable price.

FSX compatibility:

Well, they are native FS2004, but as with my Seahawk, there may be some FSX compatibility off the bat. It seems there is interest in an FSX conversion, so down the line, depending on how things have gone, that may well happen.

GAUGES & FEATURES:

Right now, gauges are not 3D. This is mainly due to compiling problems - trust me, despite my best efforts to low poly model, I have to keep the poly count low due to compiling limitations, and decking the VC fully 3D may not be a reality. But the 2D gauges should be good, and I will put a lot into them. The VC itself has some nice tricks mind you, including opening DV panel, payload controls and droppable payloads, canopy jettison and working ejector seat etc.

I hope this answers some of the immediate questions; don't be afraid to ask more- when it comes to talking Canberra (as many will tell you), I never shut up!

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the clarification. How does the performance differ between the early Canberras and the late canberras? Also, if we were to buy all pay ware packs at once, would there be a special deal like flight replicas super cubs?

EDIT: Steve there are 10 packs excluding the B.2 pack??????

Lol, it's been a long day! You're right, there are 11 packs there, including the B.2.

Anyway, yes, there will be a discount for a bulk purchase of all packs, yet to be determined, but significant enough to be worth it. Regarding performance between late and early B.2s, no actual performance difference in terms of engine thrust, the difference comes in the weight between payloads. The FDEs are dialled-in to reflect this, but most likely will not truly be noticed in flight. Mostly minor cosmetic details (lights, pitot placement etc.), and the fact you get to drop bombs in the 'classic' model, which is always fun.

Nice, will the B(1)12 that the RNZAF had be represented?:jump:

Yes, you have kinda skipped past the fighter canopy versions a little Steve! I put that down to the frustration with the weekend's footie!!!

All looking very impressive, and some of those packs look like must have's - like the sound of those 'experimentals', lots of scope there.

Steve , after crawling through the cockpit of the 'Rassberry Ripple' in a Museum south of Christchurch NZ i did wonder when a brilliant model was to come out .. looking superb :salute:

Cheers Ian

Very nice!! I know this project has been in the works for a long time. Looking forward to the release date.

That's great! :applause::applause:

May I humbly claim my interest in doing this repaint?

It's the Luftwaffe's 99+34 (B Mk.2). Note the replacement wings - doesn't it look quite odd?

Cheers,
Markus.

Morning all,

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback so far, it's nice to know I'm on the right track here. Yes indeed the project has taken me over a year so far, but I am slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the freeware release. Some of the other models are not far off either, such as the T.11/19.

Unfortunately for fighter canopy fans, no immediate plans for those models I'm afraid, but if the bomber canopy models do well, I could be persuaded ;) The experimentals are definitely going to be fun; this is what I love about the Canberra- so many different flavours to model.

That repaint is all yours, Markus, i did that one before for the Paul Foster Canberras, and can vouch that it is fun. The wings are replacements from an RAF TT.18 as I am sure you can see, and the aircraft still remains in Germany to this day as a static exhibit, although was somewhat worse for wear in the photos I saw.

Here are a few more snaps of WIP models:

Hi Steve,

Nice to see you over here as well as the other place....did you say T.17 as well ??...they were B2 variants
and for those that are interested the B6 variants had different wings and engine variant....were a wee bit more 'GT'
than B2's

ttfn

Pete

Hi Pete,

yes, I get around as they say! Yes, T.17 definitely planned, I know that is one close to your heart. Mine too for that matter, and frankly I've had to force myself not to work on it until the bugs are ironed out in all the others. Something about the T.17 nose that I love.

Have to agree on the GT aspect to the B.6 types, an extra 1,000lb per engine does make a difference. Cooler payloads too.

Steve, I knew this GAF 99+34 repaint of course, but I didn't know yet that it was you who had risen the bar this high...:

Those "roundel remains" look awesome!
And although the Paul Foster model still is a nice one, it's exciting to see a "Next Generation" Canberra coming up!

Can't wait...

yep, that is one of mine, perhaps the most enjoyable 'roundels' I've ever painted. I do love a weathered bird, and this was a lot of fun to paint. Nice screens by the way, very crisp - what res are you running at? I agree, Paul's Canberra is brilliant, and indeed, the inspiration for the project. Massively underrated designer - I think his Vulcan model is very slept on, and if it had a VC would have been fantastic.

WOWZA!!

Steve, those are looking awfully tasty, the mutts nuts. If you make them I will buy them, all of them, so far you have chosen probably two of my fav planes of that era, remember building Airfix kits of both of them as a child.

I just might wet myself waiting...
Jamie
