New F/A-18 Accel HUD freeware released

James,

Thanks for passing on the info for the frequencies for the ILS for the carriers...I'm a dilligent manual reader but seem to have overlooked this.

Thanks :ernae:

Andrew

I just tried both frequencies, Ryan's (111.7) and James's (112.0). I don't get a broadcast on either one, even when I'm right in front of the Nimitz about to land. Anyone have better luck?

Hi, the frequency for the default Acceleration carrier is 111 MHz or TACAN channel 47X. The frequency for Javier's Nimitz carrier is 112 MHz or TACAN channel 57X. The frequency is the same for ILS and TACAN.

The frequency is entered by pressing either the ILS or the TCN button on the Hornet Up-Front Control (UFC) panel, either button will have the same result of entering the NAV1 radio frequency selection mode. Then dial the appropriate freq on the UFC keypad either as a TACAN channel (only press 4-7-X for example) or as a normal frequency (press 1-1-1-0-0-ENT).

An immediate indication that you receive a signal will be the distance to the carrier displayed in the right data block on the HUD followed by the letters 'TCN'. Also the heading bug on the HUD heading tape will show the current bearing towards the carrier. Note, that the ILS needles appear only when you are within +/-35 degr from centerline.

Hmmm. I tried it again, this time with AICarriers instead of a programmed boat track. I still don't get any signal, even with a GA plane like the RealAir SF.260. I'm riding down toward the Nimitz, NAV1 tuned to 112.0, but no signal to the VOR/ILS.

Not saying it can't be done! Just trying to figure out how... BTW, the Nimitz deck has plenty of space to land the SF.260 with full flaps.

Sent you a pm...

I've got the hang of it now. I don't know why it's not working with other planes/gauges, but it's working with Neutrino's gauge and I'm pretty excited. One of the hardest things about creating the saved flights in my Carrier Tracks Vol. 1 and 2 was finding the actual carrier. This helps a lot.

If you have the FSX SDK installed you can locate the carriers
relatively easily.
Open the Explorer window and UN-check the "Aircraft only" box.
Look down the list for the "veh_car01_high_detail_sm" entries or whatever the name of the CV you are using is.

Highlight the CV entry. Right-click on the entry and select
"Set Position...".
You then see the current Lat/Lon and heading of the carrier.

You can then highlight your own aircraft entry, right click
and select "Set Position". Enter the Lat/Lon that you noted
for the CV position and you will be teleported to the vacinity
of the CV.
You can also use this method to place yourself on deck
but it is a bit more complex and involes pausing the sim
and also using Slew mode.

Thanks, Paul. I'd used the Traffic Explorer to verify that the carrier was around, but didn't realize I could also use it to teleport my own aircraft.

Slew, I find, has to be avoided for setting up saved flights with routed traffic. It will get you there, but when you reload the flight later, the carrier has always moved on by several lengths.

Hmm, OK I see. This is really good gouge here.

What happens if another airport in the region uses TCN channel 57X on 112.00? I'm flying out of Iwakuni MCAS in Japan and my Tacan data page is showing Komatsu Japan.

Also what is Neutrino's gauge? I got the part about the new realistic HUD, but that didn't help me locate any Tacans that I wasn't already able to pick up.

Ripcord
