Very weird that some have bouncing problems !

This particular Russian site is a pretty solid site. Yes, there has been payware hosted to it...but they are very quick to remove those packages once a piracy claim is made....I found an Alphasim/Virtavia payware package on that site a year or so ago, notified the folks at Virtavia, they contacted the site....the package was taken down and the uploader was banned. This is the only Russian site I will download from.

Concerning the contact points.....when Swingman first sent me the beta package, the plane would bounce like a wild horse and nose over like a drunken sailor (no insult meant toward those members of SOH who were sailors, drunken or otherwise). I did what I could to get the plane to behave better on the ground.....I was not able to get it fully dialed in.....sorry about that.

Tim

I need to contact Swingman to see if there is any way he could add the ability to open the engine cowling....you all should see the Menasco engine he modeled for this plane...best looking engine I have seen modeled in a long time.

Thank you so much for this HU :salute:- what a sweet & neat plane!

I also emphatically endorse your vetting of avsimrus. I regularly visit & download stuff, no problems ever. There is some stuff which is not found on flightsim or avsim eg. coming from Czech sites and such, so it is worth going through the old files too.

You can add an ARMY Special...

For those of us who suck at repainting you can get a reasonable facsimile of an ST Special in an ARMY livery. Copy the Texture folder in the RyanSTA folder to Texture.ARMY
Now copy that Texture.ARMY folder to the RyanSTA Special folder
Add the below lines to your Aircraft.cfg file.

[fltsim.1]
title=Ryan STA Special US ARMY
sim=Special
panel=
model=
sound=
texture=ARMY
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=
atc_id=
ui_manufacturer=Ryan
ui_type=STA Special
ui_variation=Special US ARMY
description=A classic? Yes, in every possible sense of the word.\n Ryan STA Special. Powered with 150 h.p. Menasco C-4S Super pirate.
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

the only caveat I see is the flat black patch is up too far on the special model but of course I expected that.

Don't take it to heart; think most of us here are mature enough to know that no 2 computer systems and set-ups are exactly
alike.

For me, the tweeks posted earlier help, but it still gets into a 'rocking' motion forward and back between main gear and tailwheel,
which eventually ends with it on its' nose!

Still a great model though.

Just when I thought I had enough planes... along comes this little beauty, so I just had to make room for a few more. When I first boot up the Ryan... FS drops her pretty hard on the ramp and she bounces once or twice. After the initial drop, the model is fine and behaves quite well actually. I did a few T&G's from Lavarack air field, (Just outside of Townsville, AUS.) It's a grassy airstrip with it's share of rough surfaces. Takeoffs and landings were no problem for the Ryan... no matter which version I flew.

Thanks to Swingman and his team for another stunning work of art, for us diehard FS9 fans.:guinness:

I don't know if SWingman will revisit the FS9 version, but, that looks to be an FSX reality. :applause:

He sent me the FSX Beta exterior and interior models for the PT16:

Definately gonna have to create a couple cameras for that! ...Don

I'm still trying to get over the Yak and the Duck. Now this...!! Amazing detail......just bloody amazing.

Allow me to express a big thank you, Swingman!!

Swingman told me that he tried to export an FS9 model with the functional cowl and engine...but the exporter crashes due to the model having too many polys....so no exposed engine for us 9ers. Still, one heck of a model and a ton of thanks are owed to Swingman for it.

Great model this one, and the first plane I flew in the sim after pausing for a very long time!

I loved the look of the red single cockpit Ryan. I added it as a texture to my Ryan STA/PT16 folder. I overwrote the FS9 prop blur with the FSX ones and it seems to work great. Is there anything else I should have done to port it over to FSX??

er, why didn't you just download and install the FSX version from Flightsim.com?

That's exactly what I did but I thought the red single cockpit "Special" version was so stunning that I wanted to add it to the others in FSX.

Obie

The Special is not included in the FSX version download. I did sthe same to get the single seater

This is a beautiful plane and it's rapidly becoming my favorite low flyer...but I really, really want a 2d panel. Does anyone have an idea of how to make one?

Nice shot.

Try placing your cursor right over the horizontal dividing line between the black portion and the scenery, wait for the little arrow to show up, then keep the left mouse button depressed and drag the dividing line down until you can't see the black any more. That oughta work!:salute:

The way to permanently fix this is to open the panel config file and scroll to the bottom. There you should find an entry that looks similar to this:

[Default View]
X=0
Y=0
SIZE_X=8192
SIZE_Y=2960

Increase the "Y" value by about 500 (in this example that would be 3460) and save the file. Relaunch FS9 and see how much the horizon moved, if the black still shows increase "Y" by another 500 and try again. I believe that you may have to relaunch FS9 each time to see the changes as the sim "remembers" this setting.

edit: I see that Swingman did not include this entry in his config because he did not include a 2D panel. Insert the entry above at the bottom of your panel config and see how it works for you.
