New FS Genesis meshes!

Justin Tyme at FS Genesis has recently undertaken development of new 19M meshes for numerous states in the USA....and they are GREAT! I have purchased several already, and there are more to come! Sorry no screenies yet, but I will probably post some soon....If you are looking for some hi-res mesh, and fly in the states, they are worth checking out!

been a while since i posted here. Was busy working on a project.

Yup, these FSG meshes are awesome!! I renewed my 1-year subscription at FSG so i can have unlimited downloads.

Here are some shots from Colorado:

Good find there Matt. I went ahead and got 5 states for now (that's enough damage to the old CC for one night).

Lovin my new "bumpier" landscapes. The interesting thing is that I can see the differences between my old 38m mesh in these areas and the new 19m resolution from the location of mountain top radar sites that, now with this new mesh, no longer sit at the peaks. Most of them sit a little bit off to the side showing where the old mesh peak was. Pretty interesting.

That reminds me. What happens if you have more than one mesh file for the same area? I downloaded most of the freeware 38m mesh for the western US from FSGenisis and it looks like some of that will conflict with the states that I have purchased with the 19m mesh.

So if the files are in the same scenery folder, is there some sort of priority established with them?

Just put them in a separate LOD 11 folder. Priority doesn't matter. The sim will automatically use the best mesh.

I'd like to see Justin next do Canada west two provinces, Alaska and Canadian northwest territories. For now I'll have to wait til next month to upgrade the mesh since I just bought all three of Holger Sandmann's scenaries. Just noticed a couple weeks ago the price went down.

I shall for sure be purchasing the mid-east and southeast when done.

What scenery are you using with the mesh Feng?

I was going to ask the same question, Caz....sure doesn't look like my ground environment pro......has a much more realistic look to it....

im using a custom GEpro texture pack. For summer time, i added a bit of warmth into the color palette (you can make custom sets using the GEPro program). I also have sets for winter, over-cast, tropical, etc...

btw, for those using the 19m mesh, don't forget to edit your FS9 config, otherwise the default still displays 76.4m resolution. Sometimes the placebo effect takes over and you might think the terrain is in high res... :)

Default FS9 (76.4m)
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19

(38.2m)
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20

(19.1m)
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 (USE THIS SETTING otherwise the new mesh will not show up)

(9.6m, if you have the hawaii mesh, swiss alps, etc. installed, and also patched to 9.1)
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=22

keep in mind that the higher the number, the higher the terrain resolution, and thus more polygons/memory usage. LEVEL=21 and 22 are not recommended for slower PCs...

Your pix look really nice. Any chance you might like to post the sets so the rest of us with GEP can use them?

Ahhh....I see...so now i am going to go mess with my GE Pro texture sets, and see what I can do to give them more "pop".
More meshes keep appearing on the FS Genesis storefront! There are new meshes for New England and more on the way!!

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the fsgenesis 19m mesh, at $12 a state, and what fsglobal 2010 is supposed to have. My understanding, from company info, about fsglobal is that the 19m covers all of north america including western canada and alaska in 19m. All for about $100. I can't find specific data on this anywhere. I wrote the company and didn't get a response. And those of us with fsglobal 2008 can just upgrade for about $50. I would prefer to give my money to a small concern like fsgenesis but the difference is a lot and I'm on a limited budget. If possible I'd like to see a world map with the different lod areas. Does anyone have any real info on what fsglobal 2010 covers?

Go with FSG.

Any company which won't reply back to potential customers don't deserver your business.

Justin from FSG on the other hand, always answers you emails right away.

From a file size point of view, FS Global claims all their mesh files are around 25gigs. I have every single FSG mesh installed, and it's at 28gigs so far (with more to come apparently). Not sure what this means, but FSG could contain more data. But in any case, the difference might be slight...

sign up for the 1year thing for only 70$ at FSG...then download everything! :)

Well, it's actually $80 and I don't have the money right now. Tomorrow the price goes up to $100. I lean toward fsgenesis for the reason stated above but for me that's a lot of money.

Ah well, time to take the plunge! My purchase is made, now let's hope my broadband connection is up to the job of the download task ahead of it!!

It is a lot of money....but for what it delivers in-sim, you will NEVER regret it! And I also agree with giving Justin at FS Genesis the business; He is prompt with not only support, but has a lot of tech tips and little-known fs tricks to make the product tweak-out better.
For example, I recently learned from him that LOD and distance are in fact related in fs. So for example, looking out from your aircraft's position, the closest mesh displayed is the highest quality; Further out, the next lowest res gets used, and so on. Basically, If you have 19M, 38M, and 76M installed, what you actually see out your cockpit window will be MUCH more realistic....

Ok, I did it. Couldn't afford it but saved $20 by buying today and had some points from previous purchases so saved a little more lol. I hope he does Canada and Alaska in Lod 11 next. He's done them in the past in Lod 10.

And I guess you get what you pay for. Since I now have this unlimited download I decided to replace my Talmundo freeware Alaska LOD 10 with the one from fsgenesis. The Talmundo had a total download of about 270 meg and the fsgenesis was more than double that. That says a lot.

good for geforce 7600?

old vid card: geforce 7600 GT, wondering if this nice new scenery will knock it sideways. I might have cranked the vertex level to 21 a couple times, but I think I reset it for "performance enhancement" as the athletes put it.
