Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

New System Build

Pulled the plug on my old FSX system today and will dismantle and sell it all (without HDD).

New rig is up and running, (without the sim, for now). A faint sound can be heard from Kraken pump on occasion only when running at full speed with ear right on the case vent. Apparently this is normal. Temps are in line with specs, often lower. Really pleased with this rig, and the 4K visuals.

One question, I have some RGB's which I wish to be controlled. Apparently Asus Armory Crate will control the mobo light, the RAM sticks, and all the fan lighting, but I read it's also loaded with unnecessary bloatware ? My other option is L-Connect 3, but this would leave the mobo light and the 2 RAM sticks in default rainbow mode as it doesn't work on everything in my case.

Anyone here running Armory Crate ? Any issues with the 'bloat' it supposedly installs ? I already have NZXT CAM running and working well with the Z73 cooler. Thank-you.

I have Crate on my laptop, but it obviously doesn't do as much because not as much is available. It handles keyboard lighting and fan response, and if I had compatible external RGB hardware, it could sync those up with the keyboard lighting. Looking at the usage for the associated services in the Task Manager, it doesn't use very much in the way of CPU or memory. I would think that a game rig manufacturer with their reputation should know how to build a control app that's not going to interfere with gaming resources.

Thanks, Tom.

I agree that Asus has very good hardware and software to match. The issue seems to be they like to push related products bundled with requested software for desktop users with their motherboards - from what I've come across. Many of these seem to run in the background, using (some) resources, and will never be used. I only wish I could choose what I need, and leave the rest behind. Regardless, I think I will go with Crate as it seems to be a one stop option to control all my RGB.

Looking at your signature:

...be interested in how you end up mapping that T16000M FCS HOTAS.
I went back to just a joystick in the end.

I haven't yet.

The system is built and running now. Currently just familiarizing myself with the new hardware and software. The simulator will come some time later. The HOTAS definitely has tons of buttons to program, but I also plan on using primarily the stick (with throttle control and some viewpoints delegated to the separate device) for starters. I will know more once I have the sim installed.

Still working on taming the RGB's, but running all quiet now after manually running pump at 100% for about 25 mins. Perhaps air bubble was trapped in system. Now waiting for some custom braided sleeves to finish cable management.

That is nice looking computer. Is that masssive brick in the center only the GPU or is there a cooler attached to the RTX 4090?

Hello,

The GeForce GPU has it's own air cooler consisting of three RGB fans underneath. I have yet to see all three operating at same time, most cases only the center one will spin up for a few seconds, then shut off. The O11D XL case is quite large and very heavy which makes it unpopular amongst current builds, but lots of interior space proves to be an advantage when airflow and cooling are concerned (although it doesn't show well in the pic, the case is about eight inches from the rear wall). I am sure MSFS will put things to the ultimate test.
