• There seems to be an up tick in Political commentary in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site we know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religiours commentary out of the fourms.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politicion will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment amoung members. It is a poison to the community. We apprciate compliance with the rules.

New Update Bug?

I recently installed a new set of Windows updates (still don't have SP3) and have noticed a new bug. I have a habit of deleting all the files in my cache (IE7), including cookies. But ever since the last batch, the cookies will not delete unless I open up the folder and delete them manually. So if you're anal or paranoid - or both - about deleting your internet temp files like me, you might want to open the folder to check after you finish with your normal delete routine.

BTW, I usually use the "Delete all" button, but now even the "Delete cookies" button won't delete the cookies.

Use Firefox and keep the cookies out of IE altogether. Delete from Firefox as needed.

or maybe try this:

Yo Guys;

I saw this and thought I'd give ya's all a heads-up on how I deal with cookies.

For starts; both my boxes run XP Pro and have every (applicable) update ever released by Microsoft.
Both run stable & "smooth as glass". :applause:

Like Cassie; I too use Firefox (3.0) I highly recommend it because it is more secure than I.E 7; plus loads web pages "like lightening" compared to I.E. anything.

For cookies: I use a freeware file deletion app. called "CCleaner" (Crap Cleaner)

It allows secure ERASURE of temporary internet files (TIF's) & unwanted cookies. But allows you to keep the cookies that you want.

By erasure I mean that the unwanted files are overwritten between 1 to 35 times. (your option) At that point they no longer exist as usable data or possible threats.

I have found that TIF's often carry bugs, so erasing them serves to protect your box from malware.

Simply "deleting" unwanted files & especially TIF's is a very dangerous practice. This only directs your o/s to disregard them. They however still exist, intact on your harddrive. See my point here?

I've used CCleaner for 3 years now and recommend it HIGHLY!!!.
The first time it is run; you will be absolutely amazed at how much crap it removed plus the amount of h/d space you will gain.

After you run it; please post how much space it clears in this thread so everyone will see how well it works.
I have often seen it clear more than a few GB's on older machines.

I would also be happy to answer any further questions about it's configuration & use.

Get CCleaner here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

ALSO:
For those who are interested: I've been doing an "Anti Virus" comparison in the basement (CFS2 Forum) lately.
