New version of Google Earth...

Which version is it? I saw an article where I thought they said version 5. I have 4.3 and see no way to upgrade, except by buying the paid version.

Yet, I can see the ocean mountains and continental shelf?

jmig, go to Help, then look towards the bottom of the list. There is an option to check for updates online. Clicking that shows your version and gives a link to the newer 5.whatever.

The new version is 5.0.11337.1968 (beta). I haven't noticed any significant update in land resolution, only the slight change to the opening screen and the Ocean Option, which for me is virtually useless. It is still DirextX9. Just released 1-29-09 jmig.

But I upgrade every time a new version is released. I haven't checked the Sky Option to see if any improvements or additions were made there yet.

It's pretty cool. It now has aqua, subaqua, Mars, you can record tours, sun light etc. Sky/space mode is also very interesting. I still prefer Celestia for Space but the GE application is quite impressive.
Unfortunately Google :(
Better don't use their "updater" service...

BTW, The flight model is more realistic than X-Plane :d

Thanks Matt. I don't know how I missed that before? I upgraded.

If you upgrade to the latest version, just be sure to remember to
disable those Google Earth automatic update services.

After my update to the lastest release, my firewall was
getting 'pestered' by the Google Earth update services
periodically...once an hour or more,
asking for 'access to the internet'....I have my firewall set
such that all accesses must be 'OK'd' by me with the
exception of a very few trusted processes.

In any case, I hadto go into the 'services' menu and
first shut those GE services down and then set them to
"Disabled" to keep them from interrupting me when
I'm 'flying'....I also shut down the windows scheduler process since I
don't need or use it for anything.
