Newegg and UPS nightmare

jmig

SOH-CM-2025
I have, over the years, purchased thousands of dollars’ worth of computer equipment from Newegg. This is the first time they have failed to deliver. However, they failed on a $1000 GPU. It has been lost by UPS.

I ordered a new GPU. When ordering it there was a checkbox that said for $4.95 they would send it signature required. I DID NOT check that box. We live in a secluded neighborhood and have never has any issues with packages going missing. On Wednesday of last week I received an email from UPS saying the GPU would be in the next day (Thursday) between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with a signature required.

I had an ophthalmologist appointment (I am having to get cataract surgery on both eyes) the next morning at 9:30 AM to get eye measurements for the surgery. However, UPS never comes in the morning, so I wasn’t worried. Besides, if I am not there, they just come back the next day.

So, surprise, surprise, my appointment goes longer than anticipated, and UPS shows up at 11:15 AM, before I returned. There is a note on the front door saying that the driver will drop off the package at a local CVS pharmacy which doubles as a UPS satellite, rather than returning the next day.

That evening, I call CVS, no package. The next morning (Friday) I got an email from UPS telling me that the package is at their warehouse 40-45 minutes away. So, I drove over there and no package. The agent tries to give me a soft pack with my name on it along with a woman’s name and address. I tell her that isn’t mine. She then says they will look for it and call me. So, I drove back home empty handed.

That afternoon my wife called UPS. She was afraid that since I was so frustrated with UPS, I would use profanity. They tell her that it will be a CVS that evening…WRONG. Saturday rolls around and we are going into the Labor Day holiday in the US. The UPS warehouse is closed until tomorrow (Tuesday).

In the meanwhile, I got an email from Newegg telling me the package is in the same warehouse that couldn’t find it and is closed.

So, here it is Monday morning, and I am no closer to receiving my $1000 GPU than I was last Thursday.

Sounds like three letters in full effect here! Just say'n. I'm so glad I'm old and got to live in "good" times. Feel bad for my kids and grandkids though.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from Newegg Canada until I got screwed over one time. I bought a new video card but there were non in stock in Canada so it was going to ship from a Newegg depot in the states. My address was clearly registered as being in Canada so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. The package was duly shipped and I forget now if it was FedEx or UPS but there was tracking provided (this was years ago when tracking was something of a novelty). I patiently waited and checked the tracking and could see the package's progress towards Canada when it suddenly did a sharp left turn and headed West! The next thing I know the package has been signed for in Ontario, CA but I had received nothing. Some bright spark had seen Ontario, CA on the label and shipped it to a city in California instead of a Province in Canada! :dizzy:

It took a lot of emails and angry words before Newegg issued a refund as they were convinced I was trying to scam them!

I really hate these kinds of problems with deliveries.
Sorry for you, I hope they'll manage to bring that package to you asap !

On my previous rig, I replaced an RTX2080 with an RTX3080TI and wanted to send the RTX2080 to a friend living in Spain. It simply disappeared.

As "commercial gesture" I got 96€... You can't even take a friend to a restaurant for that. The card at the time cost me 890€.

Hope you'll get it sorted John!

I just had a $5k printer/cutter delivered to the house last week by FedEx Freight. I was excited to set it up when I got home until I noticed someone had ran a forklift fork right through the front of the printer.

We have similar issues in the UK, I'm sure that most are simply theft by the couriers and trying to speak to customer service is pretty impossible. At best, you get to speak to a bot with nothing useful to say. Last year, I returned a 2m long parcel following a purchase. I paid online and it was collected. A few days later, I had an email saying that it was with the courier but it was too long for the postage purchased and that I would need to pay an additional £10 so this was paid online also. The parcel simply disappeared after that and never did get to speak to someone other than Holly, the useless bot! In the end I was refunded the original postage but was £200 out of pocket. Suffice to say I cancelled my account with that company. My neighbour got something delivered a couple of weeks ago. She was expecting a parcel and was in the back garden when it arrived. She got a notification on her phone with a photo of it in her front garden, went round to the front and it wasn't there! The courier must have simply driven off with it, she lives in a quiet cul-de-sack full of elderly people. This thread is like therapy :ROFLMAO:

Newegg support has been working with me. Last night they issued a RMI (to UPS, I guess?) and will be sending me a replacement. I am still waiting for the tracking number on the replacement. I assume it will be issued today.

Thank goodness I didn't need the GPU. My current RTX 3080 is doing just fine and will be handed down to the Photoshop (this one) computer as soon as I get the 7900 xtx installed and running.

We have had a number of cell phones stolen from our work. They get delivered and signed for but are never found. The funny part is the Fedex driver had the packages signed for by the secretary but as the plot thickens.... She had been out for over a week for surgery.

She had been out for over a week for surgery.
That's not uncommon. The driver's electronic delivery pad can remember the name of the receiver for regular stops. UPS delivery confirmation pages for stuff I get at work have been showing the name of the guy that got laid off over a month ago.

It's Friday! Curious to hear what you think of the AMD card.

I'm still at work, and more and more I'm thinking of prematurely replacing my current rig with an AMD build with watercooling. It's affordable for me now, in a couple of years on a pension, it might be more difficult.

Well, it is early Friday morning here. I am still waiting. UPS sent me an email saying it would be delivered between 10:15 and 1:30. We will see. I will believe it when it is in my hands.

I will then have to remove all the nAVidia software, replace the 3080 with the 7900 xtx, then install the AMD software.

If all goes well 🙏 I will give you a report on Saturday or Sunday.

Fingers crossed John - Priller, my previous rig was AMD water cooled - the fans for the radiator were deafening! I can hear myself think again now with an Intel air-cooled rig.

It came in on Friday afternoon. Went in easily. However, I spent the better part of today getting MSFS to work with the AMD CPU and GPU. Don't ask me what I did. I did too many things to remember.

I finally got the system to run anywhere from 35-100 FPS using mostly HIGH setting with a few ULTRA, like clouds. I am running the FR(something) the AMD Reproduction and version 12 of the MS graphics engine. Sorry, my mind is like a box of Alphabet cereal and I can’t remember the names of things.

Using VR and the Quest 3 Headset I was getting a solid 35 FPS. I am happy with that. I am using the current version of AMD Adrenalin to get these numbers. They did seem to compare favorably with the Developer’s Tab FPS.

John, so glad it finally arrived safely!

I can't remember if you're already using Virtual Desktop, but I've found I'm able to get better performance and image quality on Quest 3 using that vs the native software from Meta. You can turn on various optimizations for the Quest 3 to get the best possible performance.

Yes, I use Virtual ADesktop with XRVR and I am going wireless. I have a 5 GHz WIFI 6 modem sitting eight feet from the computer.

Glad to hear you actually got it. Shipping can be such a pain here lately. I bought a couple of server rails off of ebay and after a month the seller had to refund me my money. It was only $51 but still a pain to deal with.
