News Alert - Trouble brewing in Korea

Put this in the context of living next door to a family of a-holes, this is South Korea's position. North Korea threatens and postures, and occasionally engages in limited attacks in an attempt to intimidate South Korea. Considering that SK's industry base and quality of life are so much higher than NK, which is still basically stuck in 1930, the South Koreans have a pretty high tolerance for this kind of thuggish behavior from NK. People who are not that familiar with the area tend to dismiss the South Korean military, but they are highly trained and can provide a forceful response if need be. If this artillery barrage were aimed at Seoul, then we'd probably see the you-know-what really hit the fan.

i dont know why they continue, would the north even stand a chance? considering china is basicly telling em stop messing about and the south has just about everyone elses support?

Looks like you want yet another thread on communism to get closed down ?? :mixedsmi:

That would depend on how you wish to get involved Francois. If you have nothing useful to add then go and do something else today. If you have a problem with me, why not PM me? This is a thread about an important news item - please don't try and derail it.

As I said I hope China move in quickly and put a stop to it, diplomatically and quietly so it disappears back down the list of headlines.

It is my position that the North Koreans are probably NOT flight sim enthusiasts.

:) I agree.

Technically, NewsHawks is supposed to be about flying and simulator news. However, what simulator news we have mostly gets started and discussed in the appropriate simulator forum. Because of that, we do allow a wide latitude towards what is deemed appropriate in NewsHawks.

Political, religious, and sexual news stories are generally discouraged. Blatant political, religious, and sexual news stories will be closed or deleted. Sexual jokes will often be moved to the Cantina, despite what the OP thinks.

Threads that take a political turn or degenerate into an argument will usually be closed. Members who can't seem to stop stirring up trouble or picking fights with another member will often find that they can no longer post in threads or send/receive PMs for a period of time. Members who don't learn from their time in Purgatory will find themselves unable to even log onto SOH. They will have been banned.

So, just to be clear is this post acceptable or not? I don't understand. 95% of the threads in Newshawks are not in the least bit related to flying or simulator news and they are let go and with the frequent involvement of a moderator, even seem to be encouraged but a significant world news event like this which was posted not only to inform those who might not be aware of it but also in the hope and expectation that it could be discussed like adults is red flagged.

If Newshawks really is supposed to be about flying or simulator news only then please delete every other posting about dogs and prayers and links to silly photographs and what kind of cars you like etc etc from now on and eventually we will get the message. As it stands it is confusing as to what can be mentioned and what can't. My post had no political overtones at all and there is no reason to think it will turn sour as long as we act like adults about it. We can do that can't we?

China needs to step up and DEMAND that NK STOP any and all actions towards SK. They should align themselves with the rest of the world and aim their guns at the north. If NK hits the south, SK and China will respond militarily. Enough diplomacy. After almost 60 years, it is about time NK is put in their place. NK is only the brave little punks they think they are because they have the support of China. Take China out of the equation, and they won't be the big bad punks they think they are if they are made to stand alone. They are a bug on the wall and they need to be made to realize that. With all the business that the world does with China, China should wake up, or the world needs to find a new country for production. Just my opinion.

Don

Maybe we can send some Hollywood actors over to show their support for Kim Jong Il.

North Korea isn't called the 'Hermit Kingdom' for nothing. They're very adept in rewriting history for their constituents. If you took a tour through NK's 'war museum' in Pyogyang it would be proclaimed that South Korea and the United States invaded North Korea,....not the other way around.
The poor people of NK,....literally and figuratively,...have been forced to live in a vacuum bubble since the late 40's. Kim Jong-il,....aka 'Dear Leader'...and his military hold complete control. My guess is these continual provocations are to take the pressure off Kim Jong-il and his cronies, in order for his people to focus on something else other than their own personal misery......

Although I try to keep away from politics, there´s a nice documentary I´d like to share.

Well said. Does kind of make you wonder every time this happens though, if this is the day lil' Kim went nuts.

The normal mode of operation on these little 'publicity stunts' is a small naval engagement where a DPRK patrol boat guns down an ROK zodiac. I don't recall the last arty attack on a populated island, though I don't doubt they've happened.

Falcon 4.0

I can bring a flightsimulator to the discussion................. Falcon 4.0.................. Who hasn't been on CAP or CAS over the Yeonpyeong???? If you haven't go get Falcon 4.0 and get the SP additions............. I was constantly getting hacked by N. Korean IP ............due to the ban on Falcon 4.0 For no other reason...........it is a great geography lesson of the peninsula

With a little hindsight it's easy to see that Kim's governing style is hard cast from the old Maoist school of iron fist and total control. Mao made sure he was the total reason of all existance for the Chinese people in his day.

The N.Korean dictator has copied it to the letter, and perhaps clamped down even harder. Mao pushed for infrastrucure growth (successful or not....) and China's independance from other countries.

North Korea has not in exchange for oppression, and has infact created a huge reliance on outside assistance, while at the same time, alienating those from who it seeks help.

Chnia has evolved enormously, almost unrecognizabley in the past decades since Mao....N.Korea has not.

Now Kim finds himself desparately isolated in a world that has (totally) moved on. He's not acknowledging the global social changes around him, and we can only hope for the sake of the common North Korean citizen that Kim's power slides with his health as he enters his later years.(We've seen signs....)

Begone old dinosaur....let your people live, breath, and grow.
