Hi, folks!

Following a suggestion by RL_201, I'm currently on this one here:

Still WIP - as usual...

Learn more about this particular aircraft and his famous driver here:

There are many painted profiles on various models available.
The only authentic photograph I could obtain (shown on the vintagewings.ca site) seems like a P-40E / Kittyhawk Mk.IA version to me.

Shawn?
What do you think?

Any comments or suggestions welcome! As usual...

Cheers,
Markus.

Looking good Markus :applause:, the airworthy P-40 that Vintage Wings of Canada has is the P-40N, from what I gather, Edwards never flew. I know he flew the P-40D and P-40L, as well as the Spitfire IXc, the Hawker Tempest, and even a captured Me. Bf-109F, which he never flew in combat.

Nice! :salute: You cant keep away from the NZ connection as the current flying "BHS" was restored in NZ

Thanks, guys!

I know he flew the P-40D ...

Sure about that?
As far as I know, only about 50 P-40D (with two .50 cal. guns per wing) were produced.

This pic from 260 Sq. in action shows 3 guns per wing:
http://vintagewings.ca/page?a=340&lang=en-CA

The picture description designates them as "Kittyhawk Mk. III". I tend to disagree, because afaik, the Mk. III (= P-40L) was equipped with the Packard-Merlin V-1650-1 which didn't show the upper air scoop, distinctive for the Allison-powered D, E, K, M, N models.

I think I'll better keep basing this repaint on the E (Mk. IA) model...

@ Naki:
There's something about your splendid country keeping me attached... :newzealand: :wavey:
I was already nominated as honorary kiwi here, so I'm obliged.

Cheers,
Markus.

Mighty Markus!!

Good Day.. eh?
Mighty awesome Markus!...whatever you are using to 'spike' your 'Tim Horton's Brew'..keep
it up.....your repaints are much appreciated. Anything beginning with 'RCAF' is a must have.
Keep them comin'!

Great looking repaint, Markus. Here's what I found in my library...

"After the delivery of the first twenty Kitthawk Is, the wing-mounted armament was increased to six 0.5-in. guns with 281 r.p.g. (Hawk 87A-2). Only twenty-two P-40Ds were produced with four wing guns, an order dated February 18, 1941, having increased armament to six guns, subsequent aircraft with this armament being designated P-40E."

Thanks you, guys!

Still fiddling on some details...

Additionally, I'm in contact with David from IRIS to get his permission for making the "de-shined" model available for all. He kindly offered to host the file on the IRIS site:

The P-40 in RAF service was called the "Tomahawk"

Hmm - I found this information on the designation:

"Warhawk was the name the United States Army Air Corps adopted for all models, making it the official name in the United States for all P-40s. The British Commonwealth and Soviet air forces used the name Tomahawk for models equivalent to the P-40B and P-40C, and the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_P-40

The IRIS set contains the P-40E, F, L and N versions, so I do think the name "Kittyhawk" for my Commonwealth repaints on these models should be correct.

Cheers,
Markus.

Done!

Just finished the upload to AVSIM, Flightsim.com and the Outhouse.
