Following a suggestion by RL_201, I'm currently on this one here:

There are many painted profiles on various models available.
The only authentic photograph I could obtain (shown on the vintagewings.ca site) seems like a P-40E / Kittyhawk Mk.IA version to me.

Looking good Markus , the airworthy P-40 that Vintage Wings of Canada has is the P-40N, from what I gather, Edwards never flew. I know he flew the P-40D and P-40L, as well as the Spitfire IXc, the Hawker Tempest, and even a captured Me. Bf-109F, which he never flew in combat.

Sure about that?
As far as I know, only about 50 P-40D (with two .50 cal. guns per wing) were produced.

The picture description designates them as "Kittyhawk Mk. III". I tend to disagree, because afaik, the Mk. III (= P-40L) was equipped with the Packard-Merlin V-1650-1 which didn't show the upper air scoop, distinctive for the Allison-powered D, E, K, M, N models.

I think I'll better keep basing this repaint on the E (Mk. IA) model...

Great looking repaint, Markus. Here's what I found in my library...

"After the delivery of the first twenty Kitthawk Is, the wing-mounted armament was increased to six 0.5-in. guns with 281 r.p.g. (Hawk 87A-2). Only twenty-two P-40Ds were produced with four wing guns, an order dated February 18, 1941, having increased armament to six guns, subsequent aircraft with this armament being designated P-40E."

Hmm - I found this information on the designation:

"Warhawk was the name the United States Army Air Corps adopted for all models, making it the official name in the United States for all P-40s. The British Commonwealth and Soviet air forces used the name Tomahawk for models equivalent to the P-40B and P-40C, and the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants."

The IRIS set contains the P-40E, F, L and N versions, so I do think the name "Kittyhawk" for my Commonwealth repaints on these models should be correct.
