Night lysander Missions into Occupied France

The airfield beacon got me to thinking about this.....A year or two ago I started working on a mission pack to replicate the historical night lysander missions in to occupied France. Along with the mission template there is a vehicle with dimly lit slit headlamps, a low light farm house and a small hand held flashing lantern.

If you guys are interested I will locate all the stuff and send it on to Owen to build the mission pack. The missions are based on night departures from England and locating a small field in France (not an airfield) and landing using only the dimly lit car and hand lantern as reference. the missions will be filled with danger from German vehicles and troops approaching your landing site and you must get in and get out before you are discovered.

The flights to and from France will feature searchlights, AA and the player will see night raids by the RAF on targets along the routes. You will have to avoid German Night fighters on the return trip that are set up as random spawns and routes to add chance discovery.

yep, I'm also interested!!

Another idea: updated the Stirling loadout in ordrer to add paratroops. It was Stirling that dropped paratroops just before D Day/H Hour in Brittany. They were dropped during the night of 5th to 6th of june 1944 and were thet first allied troops of Operation Overlord to be engaged.

They joined french partisans and engaged the Germans troops, the goal was to prevent them to reinforce the Normandy area. These commandos operations ended in august 1944 when troops from Normandy leaded by Patton arrived.

Some huge battles occured at Saint Marcel, not far from where I'm from, and the partisans suffered heavy losses.
There is a museum about everything that happened here:

A re-creation of these paratroops drops by the Stirlings over Saint Marcel with all the new effects would be a fantastic and very special addition for me.

Wow you guys really come up with some great ideas, Thanks for this very much.
I looks as if I have some missions to build..
I have the beacon Steve, off to the mission shop..
I'll get all of this started..

Led's comments about the Stirling drops got me to thinking about the 82nd and 101st Airborne Pathfinder groups. What kind of beacon were they using?

Just can't wait for this mission :wiggle:
Whith HH building it I am sure it will turn out GREAT !!:jump: :jump: :jump:!!

Special night missions into occupied France

Well put guys

I was thinking about those mission as well. Updating the Sterling, which was used in some of those missions, is a great idea.

And there is the special duty Lysander at AvHistory, you just need to replace the cockpit by ETO's one and it's perfect!

I have the base mission finished, and will set up the rest today..
I will stick in a couple of surprises, and random events..
This is turning out fun..
Back to the mission building..

Owen, Coincidentally I have this month's Flypast magazine with an article on this subject with accounts and techniques. I'd be happy to scan it for you if you're interested.

Owen,

I am working on/updating the new lighted vehicle, lantern and farmhouse. The base template I have has a really good smooth field near a road with a German column. The German Column will spawn on the road near the farmhouse as you approach. You can tinker with the spawn distance to suit your needs and we can adjust the column speed to arrive at the time you are on the ground. The spawn can be edited to provide for different ground vehicles to add variety to the missions.

You may want to pick out an alternate field and have a sortie to two different sites and in one instance have the player divert because the field has been compromised. All kinds of possibilities.

I should have everything ready for you by this weekend.

Best Regards,

Steve

:salute:Thanks Led Zeppelin:kilroy:Don't know how I missed that one, :applause:Now I got 6 in ETO.

Owen, I hope to have everything to you by Sunday evening. The package includes:

1. New French Resistance Fighter with lantern (thanks for the figure Clive). The lantern has a steady small light but will flash every ten seconds.

2. New dimly lit lighted truck with interior lights.

3. New improved lighted farm house.

4. new German vehicles for night operation. They leave no dust trail and one half track has a searchlight that will hunt for you when you are on the ground. When he gets close to you it will illuminate your aircraft.

Steve

Putting the finishing touches on the lighted truck. Loic mentioned a west 40 French vehicle would be nice to have done the same way. Loic you and Nigel pick the one you want and I will include if you guys want it done.

There will be only a handful of the new night vehicles done as they are very time consuming but I think the mission builders will love them. When placed in a column they will put a small amount of reflected light on the vehicle in front of them and as stated before one half track will have a searchlight like the one mounted on the new MTBs but smaller and less range.
