Nissan Prepares to Release Electric Car 'Leaf'

Lionheart

SOH-CM-2014
Nissan released the 'price' today for its new Nissan Leaf electric car. This will be a 100% electric drive-train, no gasoline onboard. The pricetag is based on Government breaks and discounts. The price will vary from California to other states, with California starting at $21K and other states at $23K on up.

Pretty awesome that we can now start getting fully electric cars once again at a major dealership, by a major manufacturer.

I wonder how gm feels, having been such a pioneer and screwing up their leap forward by their 'two steps back'.

The little 'Leaf' vehicle looks a bit like a mix between a Prius (hybrid) and a Murano SUV.

Neat little EV...
Interestingly, round about the time this was announced for sale, an article appeared about how EV's merely transfer pollution from tailpipe to (power station) smokestack.
It concluded by saying that the notion of EV's being cleaner than internal combustion engine cars is "a lie".

Was the person telling this statement from the Arab republics?

;)

Out here, we have nuclear power, so all we have is depleted uranium and steam... DU goes into Tank parts.

Nice looking car, I wonder how far it will go before you have to recharge the batteries? Before I would buy an ell electric car it would need to go at least a 150 mile before needing to be charged. That is how far I have to drive to work and back every day plus a 30 mile reserve.

....them parts being Shells by any chance? A-10 enjoys them DU Rounds too :icon_lol: only electric car i'd even consider is a Tesla Roadster then again the model S ain't a bad looker

Gah why are all (consumer) energy efficient cars so ugly? Almost all the hybrids are hideous. Now this...

We need to bring back real cars.

Someone lied to you. Most of the power in your country comes from burning coal.

Real Cars? Teslas model S is a beauty, has Aston Martin style lines... remember these things can do 0-60MPH in 3.8 seconds... thats Faster than most sports cars accelerate

LOL if you've got the money to call those "consumer" cars, all the power to ya! :wavey:

Here where I live (United States of America), I have a nuclear state of the art power plant about 20 miles away, Paulo Verde. Cool station. Lots of steam.

We have a different station too, a charcoal burner, which still runs, and a gas one over in Tempe, still runs. But if thats the only thing burning instead of 1.2 million cars, then I guess I can live with that...

That new Tesla sedan is just awesome looking... Could you imagine driving around in something like that, no fumes, just a whine like a turbine engine, almost un-hearable...

One further on the Telsa.... 285 to 300 miles on a charge. Inexpensive to charge.... about $6.00 to charge the Roadster. As told to me by a man and his wife than own one here in Delaware. And she told me they actually fight over who's going to drive it to work.

There's actually several Telsas out on the highways around here. Cool lookin sports car.

Teslas must be an adrenalin rush every time you drive.
Thing is electric motors have max torque from rest, so even quite small ones feel as if they are in a hurry.
Sort of like a super-responsive accelerator.
Even the little city car EVs (which spend most of their time start/stopping) feel as if they're begging to be flogged.
This generally is not good for range though ;)

EDIT: Overall, the argument about transferring pollution from tailpipe to stack is correct.
Most power is coal-generated (about 45% in the US) but the difference is you can more easily control pollution at a power plant than a car, especially when they get older.
IN NZ we have one of the few power mixes that favour EV's: 70% renewable energy.
Trouble is, if EV's become too popular we'd have to build more fossil-fuel capacity...

I'm still cheesed off at Leno for the whole CoCo thing...
BUT, I believe he did get one of the first production model Teslas.
Here's a video of that ride... :d
