My advice is to use Rhumbas mesh, but not the watermasks - they are just too "aggressive", as you've found.

We'll need to wait on Maskrider finishing his Solomons rework to make best use of Rhumbas new mesh, the default watermasks don't match up too well in this area either.
 
I decided not to use them. Thanks for the info. I am trying to redo my Guadalcanal scenery over so that I can start working on the missions.
