I've been flying CFS3 for years and am familiar with editing and tweaking files. I've recently installed FSX and DL'ed alot of freeware & payware, I want to tweak some of those but the .bgl's are totally alien to me. Could someone please give a brief explanation on how to edit these or point me to some tuts?

For example: I want to replace the Alphasim USS Belleau Wood AI aircraft models with some of the AI models from MAIW. How do you do that?

I've also made skins for CFS3 and want to start making some for FSX. I'm already familiar with dxt.bmp, photoshop, etc. and want to know what resolution would be most accepted - 1024, 2048 or 4096?

Foo Fighter... I moved this down into the general section for you so it would have more views and help....

I don't paint so am of no help...

easiest way to replace the AI, is just substitue the new MDLs, textures and contact points for the existing ones. The better way, but more difficult, is to change the name in the flightplan to the new aircraft and recompile.

As for resolution on painting, use what works for you. I would say go with 1024, especially since there are also spec and normal maps in most cases. You can go higher and get a better look, but it will also give you more of a performance hit depending on the users rig.

Thanks Harleyman for the move.:guinness:

MCD - That's what I figured but thought the change would have been in the AFCAD. I was using the BGL converter from Ian Thatcher to change it but couldn't get it to work. The flightplan would be in scenery/world/scenery right? Am I also using the correct converter/compiler?

Thanks for the assist.:ernae:
