North Texas Regional Terminal

falcon409

SOH-CM-2025
With the pics I shot Sunday finally on my computer, I started putting together the main terminal. It's in the early stages, but it'll look much better than the default building I have in the scenery right now, lol.

That is looking good Ed!

If you want I have made a 3d-object for the green bush in front of the terminal and used it in my Ikaros airport and also in the Fantasy of Flight around the water tower:

I can send you the sketchup file which is the long version and the textures and you can do your gardening.

Way to go ED! :applause: I'm glad that you got your camera:isadizzy: issue resolved. Please keep us here at the Outhouse updated with your progress.

Another part of the same airport. The Fire Station sits right next to the Terminal. I realize these are simple buildings to most who have done this for a while and it's probably "ho hum" to most, but making that leap beyond. . ."no way I'll ever figure this out". . .to this, is exciting.

You'll have the hang of it when... you start thinking "If I change this texture just a smidge, I can use it for making an object to go into a library for use with Instant Scenery 2". Then you'll be showing off all kinds of stuff at different airports! :salute:

Ed, I completely get it and i enjoy seeing your progress. I remember all the great little photoreal fields you did awhile back and I was always jealous at how fast you did them up, but the main reason behind that is you didn;t have to model any objects which is the time consuming part of most sceneries. I remember my first models and how with each one I added things till I really got into the modeling part. I work with mesh in 3DSMax and Zbrush that is 1000's of polys now and I am still amazed at what can be created with virtual playdoh, LOL. I look forward to seeing the finished project as North Texas Regional isn't far from where I am working this week.

Thanks Lance and Michael. . .I don't want to overdo the posting end of this, but maybe there are some other people who will see the piddly stuff I'm doing and get the bug. Couldn't hurt, lol. This is the Sign that sits just east of the Terminal parking area in front of the Tower.

Once you start down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny...consume you it will! :icon_lol:
Nice work. :applause:

You've fully got the hang of it Ed. Don't hold back posting your WIPs. I know how it feels.

Just start importing some in FSX to see how they look in the sim and check how FSX renders them. A good idea is to temporarily hide the edge lines and corners in sketchup to get a clearer 3d shape.

I use a default airport for that purpose. One that I don't normally fly from. While I normally delete :pop4: the bgl files, I just leave the textures alone. I'd hate to guess :isadizzy:the number of texture files in my test airport. I also use discreet texture names for the objects as I put the bgls and textures in the individual Add-On scenery folder. That way if I want to use the object with different textures at another airport I can do it simply by going back through the model convert process and rename the textures.

Importing will be next Dimus, before I go any further with this. . . .I do want to see how these render in the sim. . .and hiding the edges and corners does give a better idea of how they might look.

Wow, Ed! That is some superb stuff. :applause:
I made my first stacked box and stepped cylinder yesterday! The 1st 2 video tutorials got me that far.
Mebbe, one day, I can post something as good as you folks' examples...Don

He:icon_lol:, He:icon_lol:, Looks like another poor lost soul heading down the river of no return...:kilroy: There might just be a chapter of Scenery Maker's Annonymous in:mixedsmi: your area.

I just love that lighthouse style tower!

Mind you the transparent glass will probably not convert straightforward from sketchup. I'll check the MCX settings I used that worked well at Tifton terminal and send them to you.

How do I get the sketchup models into FSX? Is there an converter somewhere? I'd like to get the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge into the scenery in FSX.

We all use Arno's ModelconverterX for that:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14215

You need first to convert Sketchup to collada (.dae) and then import to MCX and export to mdl or directly to bgl. The bgl can then be placed using any object placement tool. There are tips for converting though, not 100% straightforward so let me know if you need help. Check out the threads at FS Developer if you want to learn. If just the bridge is what you need pm me and I may try to convert it for you.

There are four of these large hangars on the airport, so this will fill the flightline pretty quickly and only one of them has changed considerably after being renovated by a "wealthy tenant", lol. . . .but at least I have the basic structure and I can add on to make the new portions he added.
