If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Had a fun Alaska flight this evening, complete with the Northern Lights in their full glory.

Short slideshow attached...nothing fancy...click the pic.

Alaska early evening flight -- 146 nm short hop
Depart Port Alsworth (TPO) at 6:15 p.m.
Climb to 9000'
Destination: Elmendorf AFB (PAED) ---located just 6.5nm NNE of Stevens Anchorage Intl.

I remember seeing that when I first got FS9 before any add-ons so I think it comes stock.

LouP

It can be placed. It is listed as "Aurora" in "RON_EZ_OUTDOORS_2.BGL.
It's a common object file, most of you probably have it.

If I remember correctly, there are a few sceneries available that have the Aurora Borealis "placed". It sort of takes the fun and thrill out of it for me. I'd rather be surprised.

The default fs9 effects are fx_Aurora1.fx, fx_Aurora2.fx, and fx_Aurora3.fx.

Night flights in northern Canada and throughout Alaska will amaze and satisfy. I have even seen them, on occasion, in some of the northern parts of some states, like Washington and Idaho. It's all timing.
