Our hearts go out to the victims and familes of the recent terror attacks in Norway. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Strange times indeed!
Such a dreadful act and it goes to show that regardless of religion or politics, there is no rationale behind such acts...only the fevered ramblings of mentally damaged people.

These Norwegians who suffered so dreadfully are in my thoughts and prayers.

An in-house terrorist too, a Right-Wing, religious fanatic with grievances toward Muslims and Norway's multi-culture policy. Lord do we have more than our fair share of them here in America.

What disgusts me more is, that people seem to care/know more about Amy Winehouse's death more than the mass murders and Oslo bombing.
At least that is what I'm noticing here in the states.
Nice job society.

And you don't expect that from our celebrity hungry media. If you want real news reporting, use Al Jezerra. No lie, most unbiased news I can find on the web.

In any country this would be a tragedy.
In an open and peaceful society like Norway, doubly so.
Shattering.

Where do people get these random, murderous notions?
No religion fosters this behaviour.
What goes on?

I don't think it's anything cold or uncaring that elicits this perception of non-reaction, often the enormity of the outrage is too much to absorb and there is only so much you can say about such an act, there just aren't the words. With Amy Winehouse here we have an individual to latch onto. She was a damaged and vulnerable individual whose end was probably avoidable but turned out to be inevitable without intervention.
With Oslo there was nothing to show apart from the aftermath. Remember how sick we got of how the news channels kept showing the 9/11 events ad infinitum. That only abated when victims families asked the news media to surtail it.

What I can't quite understand is the maximum sentence this individual will most probably receive, only 20 years!!!
Apparantly there is no 'Life Sentence' under Norwedian law.
Perhaps this might be handed down (if the perp is found guilty) as 90+ sentences of 20 years each to be served consecutively but I doubt it.
I gather this was a calculated and thoroughly premeditated crime, planned over several years ........ :kilroy:

Have to agree Cazzie, Al-Jazeera does appear to a very reliable, relatively unbiased source of news.

Wombat, the "maximum 21 years" figure being bandied about has a caveat, in that the sentence can be extended if the person is deemed to be a threat to the public; think that is a given in this case, I suspect this person will not be seeing the light of day for quite some time. I'm surprised that most news reports are ignoring that caveat - not!!

I agree. I have their TV channel as well and it surprised me just how unbiased it was. I had expected it to be a PR outlet for bin Laden, but not so.

What a sad indictment, it used to be the BBC that the world could rely upon.

Does Rupert Murdoch have any say in BBC broadcast news? If so, 'nough sad.

It is my understanding Norway took a poll to see if the death penalty might be warranted in this matter. Seems Norwegians are still a tolerant lot, those not in favor out numbered those in favor 3 to 1.

No, Murdoch has no power in the BBC. If anything they would be glad to see him go. I believe the BBC has reported impartially but The Sun (part of Murdoch's news empire) was reporting the the attacks were of Islamic origin before it became clear that the atrocity was commited in the name of the Christian right.
The forces of nature can exact terrible measures on the people of the world without madmen adding to the death toll.

Multi-Culti is a failed policy, and there is legit concerns over present demographic shifts in US and Europe. Having said that, terrorist acts solve NOTHING.

I am heartbroken that Norway has suffered such a terrible attack..

I do Pray for those who have been affected by this senseless act..

I don't understand why anyone would or could do such a terrible thing..

I do pray that at some point mankind can learn we are brothers and sisters to each other and live free from this kind of terrible hate towards each other..

Still is; first place I go to when anything big happens is the BBC, their reporting remains balanced and thoughtful in the main. Al-Jazeera have a unique perspective though, so I use them as a useful back up.

Damn right

What created a monster like Anders Breivik? The institution of political self satisfied correctness with their lies, their denial of history, their oppresion of speech, labeling all criticism of the muslim settlements in Europa as "islamophobia", "racism" and supporter of Adolf Hitlers perverted genocide. Consider a native american (in our old terms an Indian) that would defend the americas against the invaders from the east (europeans)

Was a native american in the 1600-1800 + considered as "whitophob", a christianophob or a racist when waves of europeans invaded and setted down in the americas ? They should as most of the native north american tribes made a bullwork aginst the invaders.

They did not.

Now in Europa, we are like the americas, native europeans are experimenting an invation of people from, not christian countries, but from islamic lands that seek "asylum". In reality exhausting our generous welfare system that costs billions of taxpayers money, and those to dare the slightest critizim against the multicultural ideology are labeled as "racists". Freedom of speech?
