Was it entirely necessary to keep her in jail for 3 days and sentence her to the suspended seven? And before anyone comes in here talking about the penalties for misusing 911, I don't care. That's excessive and rediculous. It's all funny until you get thrown in jail for three days because you drunk-dialed someone.

Looks to me like she got every chance in the world to stop acting stupid.
The simple act of hanging up would have kept her out of jail and court.

You get three strikes and then they send the Police. They have to its the law. 3 days in jail is a fine reminder not to do it again.

Yep, three days in jail as a reminder sure beats having said 911 operator busy on a foolish call and some poor wife of a heart attack victim on hold for those precious golden minutes!
This stuff ain't fun and games. Peoples' lives are in the balance here.

However, I suspect since the 911 operator informed her she should hang up or else face possible criminal actions, and she came back with a challenge, if instead she had hung up then, I'm thinking all would have been forgiven.

Well let's look at it from a practical perspective.
Option 1;
- Send officers to her house to arrest her, taking them off the street
- Make said officers fill in paperwork to keep her in
- Arrange for court proceedings for her sentencing
- Take up a cell for 3 days, providing all food and drink etc
Option 2;
- Send one officer to give her a good telling off and warning
- Use the other resources effectively rather than locking up a woman who has just got pissed and done something stupid, as we all have.
Option 1;

Actually, I thought Skittles had a good point on this one. Isn't that what this forum is about, discussions about current events? It's not much of a "discussion" if everyone is just chiming in to agree with the original poster, as long as it's done in a civilized manner, which in my opinion this one was......

I'd agree that Tigisfat and Skittles have good points, and it's not political at all; he's just airing a perfectly valid opinion that I'm sure many agree with.
In a perfect world where the police forces aren't already overstretched and the entire justice system isn't build on reams and reams of paperwork then it would fantastic to throw the book at her. However in the real world it is certainly a waste of time and money to go to such lengths to prosecute for what is effectively a drunk and disorderly offence.
On the other hand I suppose that there is something to be said for making an example of her to deter other people from doing the same?

Nope, not the brightest, but people under the influence will do all sorts of things. But 911 is an official communication line and misuse can't go unnoticed or unpunished. Hope she gets some help with the drink and what ever else is going on that drove her to do what she did. Seems there was no enhanced 911 or else an officer would have been sent over to check the welfare. Happens all the time out here.
Does the punishment fit? I checked around and haven't found any transcript or more details yet so can't say how the dispatcher handled it for sure. But there is no end to the critical information that gets passed along those lines. That accessability has to be protected and defended. It wasn't a Pizza Hut she called. In my opinion she got enough if she stays good, but that's just me. There are bigger fish to fry.
