• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

What American Actress was named after a famous WWII aircraft. Hint: She was named after an individual plane and the plane itself was "half swan, half..." :applause:

B-17D ........aka Swoose

B-17D aka..........the Sw(Swan)........... oose (Goose) or Swoose

Actress Swoosie Kurtz

Correct. :applause: She was named after the B-17d the Swoose sometime flown by her father in WWII. It was named after a popular song of the period, the Swoose, half swan and half goose. While checking on the answer I was surprised to learn the Swoose is still in existence, the only D model left, and is being restored by the National Air and Space Museum. Also, it was the only American bomber on active duty from the first day of the war to the last. At one time the rear half of one B-17 ws melded to the front half of another one to grate a new ac, hence the Swoose. Swoosie's father, then Capt Fank Kurtz, was instrumental in saving the airplane. He is known as the most decorated U.S. pilot of WWII and later went on to command the 463rd Bomb Group in Italy. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swoose_(B-17)
