Now I'm having trouble getting into 2020

Guess what. takes 20 minutes to get me to the welcome screen and CTD next.
5 times in a row now. Being not the only one gives me hope that it's not my local install that's borked. :ROFLMAO:

Yea, they are ticked! LOL, good they should be upset. I'm close to doing a reinstall anyway, lots of weird stuff happening.

X-Plane anyone?

Hello all! We are aware about issues when trying to launch MSFS 2020 where’s it’s stuck on “checking for updates”. Moderators have escalated this to MS/Asobo to look into (as well as some issues with launching MSFS 2024). Please note that it is a weekend and this may take a bit for them. Thank you for your patience and reports. You may use this topic to report: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/stuck-on-checking-for-updates-msfs-2020-11-january-2025/696784 - The MSFS Forum Moderation Team

I have to admit I'm becoming worn out - after all the fluster cluck on '24 - did they really srew up the last working release of their marketing praises?

Since mid November I'm spending my time with figuring out what works and what not - mostly calming down again with hope for some sort of update until christmas (didn't mention the year)
I'd really appreciate if they'd cut a little bit on the marketing front and spend this money on reasons to fly MSFS(2024)
Nice side effect: They can also cut back on apologies

Rant over

Fun fact: I was having the same issues the whole day long. I uninstalled 2024, cleaned my rig of the remnants of 2024, rebooted, and everything was working again.

I don't mind the issues they're having with 2024 as long as I can get into 2020 to actually do some flying.

well - it works! This is '20 and both installations are still on the hard drive.
Don't ask me why and informations are few and far in between . . .

What worked for me was to rename my Community folder, then it started up and I could update it, then after update I quitt, restored my Community folder and it ran fine. I did not need to delete any addons.

However, upon restarting after the update, it had reset all Assists to novice mode and buggered up some other settings, so I had to spend some time getting it configured again.

I"m wondering if '24 and '20 talk to each other on the same machine, possibly causing problems?
I only have the latter, and no issues whatever.

I was thinking the same thing. What's more, it happened to me after an update of '24.

Anyway, I'm keeping 2020 for the time being. Because it works for me. I still own 2024, so we'll see what happens in the (near) future.

Cheers,

Didn't have time to mention this yesterday, since something came up right after my flight, but when I launched the sim yesterday for the first time in a week, the update screen duration was the shortest it's been since the launch of '24. I'm wondering if something was partly broken, then finally broke, and then MS/Asobo actually fixed it. I'll have to try again, possibly this evening after work.

I only have 2020, and there were definitely issues this weekend. I think there was just something in Community that the update was tripping over.

I think I am going to stop updating what I downloaded from fs.to, especially if the author says it works in both 2024 and 2020. I'm getting the feeling that when a lot of authors say "still works in 2020," they mean they can't think of a reason why it won't work in 2020, not that they have tested it. Unless it's explicitly a 2020-only product, I'm basically going to freeze my 2020 install while I wait for 2024. Never used most of those airports and skins anyway.

Seems like we were all suffering in silence. After my aborted attempt to use 2024 I went back to 2020 then after using it fine for 2 days got the "Checking for updates loop"....tried everything and spent hours researching the problem before finally bailing out and doing another clean install. The good news was that it cured the nosewheel steering problem I had with the MILVIZ T-6A....
