Now y'all know I could not delve too long without doing "TARHEEL"

Lt. George Preddy's first assignment was with the 9th FS, 49th FG in Darwin, Australia in 1942. there he flew a P-40E. Early photos show the name "TARHEEL" on both the port and starboard side. Later photos of this aircraft (or a newer aircraft) show "TARHEEL" on the port cowl and a dragon painted on the starboard side. To give you the pleasure of both worlds, I have uploaded the base textures to SOH and FlightSim and zipped a texture of the fuselage in the early motif sans the dragon, which I have attached below. Just replace the P40_3_T texture in the large download once your have it installed.

If you know your way around, you can bloat your system and make another folder and alter the aircraft.cfg, but let's not complicate things, just choose your option.

Scenery is VOZ 1.9.

The base zip includes a new face texture with a mustache to more properly resemble Lt. Preddy.

Caz, having a ball with the IRIS P-40, it's like chicken, everybody eats it. :icon_lol:

you traditionalists may not enjoy my Upcoming P-40, replaced several bits with carbon fibre to make it lighter, which means she accelerates a bit faster... heres an image of one i completed some time back for you to enjoy, if anyone wants me to redo it and make available let me know... and if i do re-do it expect tonal variation on the panels...

smoothie, you have the same problem with the tail wheel I had, it is elevated. Change the bold in the contact points of the aircraft.cfg and she will sit on the tarmac.

The paint looks sweet! :ernae:

Caz

That looks great...will look better on a deshined model. Will mail the tweaked MDL files to you in a bit.

Bonjour Obio,

Would it be possible for you to upload your deshined model to the library so we can have a choice between shined and deshined ? I confess to a strong partiality to deshined models when it involves painted WWII planes.

Thanks aplenty,

Fleurdelys

Not sure that I can upload them.. I need to contact someone at IRIS to get their okay on it. I can e-mail them to you if you want...will take 3 e-mails to send them all.

OBIO

I would appreciate it, Obio.

Do you still have my e-mail address or do you want me to PM it to you ?

Thanks again,

Fleurdelys (I owe you :icon29:) + :)icon29::icon29:) ... LoL

....If I'm not mistaken,...Wild Bill Kelso aka Markus was trying to get permission from IRIS so he could upload the 'de-shined' file to SOH.

Another good lookin' repaint Caz. :applause:

Smoothie that unpainted bird looks really good too. :applause:

There are some handsome natural metal P-40s that will look great on the Iris bird.

Hey Tim, the de-shine thingy is so easy to do, maybe until and unless permission is granted to include it in repaints you could just post some of your settings for folks to apply them selves. Just a thought.

Cheers,
Steve

just to show you the progress.... everything has been enhanced so it's visible for this shot, about 1 hours work so far done... and i'm still rivetting....
