O/T 20 Spitfires found in Burma!

Wow, pretty much 'On Topic', I'd say! How anybody could treat potentially serviceable aeroplanes that way... [actually, fortunately they did, for recovery].


(Very O/T: they just bulldozed our good F-111's in a Queensland tip: maybe they could n't stand the thought of privately flown, nuclear-capable aircraft!)
Some countries keep everything, just in case.



If the Spits are still encased in original grease-proof wrap, you'd think at least a million pounds each. Imagine the savings in work from making parts from drawings for just one aircraft....Super find!

Be great to see enough for a couple of squadrons flying..

O/T: Might be some truth to rumours old rumours of Spits among aircraft left here in caves up in the NNwest, or under desert sands, etc. There's an old, old story of a mysterious black Spit that flew around central Aus, post war and sixties etc that sometimes seen by airliners but never caught by the Authorities nor found. Some station-owner was thought to have it hidden out there. The place is certainly big enough for it to occur, and impossible to search. Funny thing is, have heard the story from unconnected sources...........

Maybe if old Military records are searched, more aircraft caches might be found elsewhere???
 
Just came here to post this and it's already here! It is indeed wonderful that the world population of flyable spitfires may go from 35 to 55! Very good!
 
MkXIVs. They are not so common, compared to the MkIX. MkVIIIs would have been nice, too.
