O/T AMD CPU

I have had an AMD CPU in all of my computers since well a while. Have a Brisbane now and CFS3 must be run at 3 for terrain and scenery, clouds 2 all else 5, or the game consistently locks up. I know its not my card Nvidia 560GTX, have 650 watts, cpu runs real cool with BAMA heat sink, 4 gb memory ASUS M3A78-EM (had a micro case, now have mid-size rosewill). If I go to the dark side what intel cpu is recommended?

Price with new board and memory limit 500.00 us.
 
I have completetly lost the plot when it comes to CPU's these days. I thought Intel I7 was the cutting edge, but now I read reports of I5 which seem to have superceded the I7 which seems odd numerically wise. With AMD I have totally lost track.
 
I have a Core2 Duo 2.8GHz (E7800?), 4GB ram and nVidia 9800GT 512MB which is anything but cutting edge now. Clouds on 2 and everything else on 5 and I get around 50+ fps in ETO or down around 30 fps with the B-24...

That's when I take time to fly....

I am debating hitting the cash drawer this year or next. Some talk of a new line of Intel chips later this year. Swore I would not ever be an early adapter again, so more than likely will choose a 1366 socket I7 990x. This will be my last gaming computer that I build so I am going to splurge up front and with no plans to upgrade the processor in the future like I have done with my amd box.

You might want to take a look at socket 1155 I5 and I7 core with sandy bridge for your application as well.

Sometimes its a leap of faith despite much research. :)

I will use an aftermarket cooler. I currently have a thermolab BADA which although it is a few years old still ranks in the top ten.

I used to have a Core2Duo E6750 2.66GHz, 4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM and a 8800GTS 320MB before the latter decided to fry itself. All sliders at 5 the combination was giving around 30 FPS near ACC airfields or similar facilities and 60+ FPS everywhere else. In the end it seemingly doesn't take that much to get a lot out of CFS3.
