Obsolete models

There's a lot of irrealistic models that deserves a new version including standard CFS2 original one. Let's begin with the Mitsubishi G4M2 with it's irrealistic turret. Allen did a good G4M1 version based in the horrible original model. I think add a new 20 mm turret is within the talent of many developers here. Talking about the G4M2, there's another question: the Virtual Navy Baka is out of scale and needs an intervention.

There planes that deserves a substitute. Payakan has a prolific career, but sometimes he was too inventive. His Petlyakov Pe-8 it's a fantastic plane, but his Nakajima G8N1 is too schematic and lacks detail. Another good example is his Messerchmitt 264 with machine guns in the nose and the wings and a keel under the rear fuselage.

Another plane is the Heinkel 112 fighter. The only good one is for MSFS 2020 and can not be converted for CFS2. The CFS2 version has a completely equivocated outline with an irrealistic cockpit. Here we can talk about the DB601 version faster and with a longer range than the BF-109E.

I created new realistic airfile and DP's for Them and I crossed the Atlantic and returned with the Me264. If somebody is interested call me.

Hi Pepe, though I agree on your remarks, I'm sometimes happy that there IS a flying model. Something is better than nothing (LOL).

By the way, you can replace every stock aircraft with a better one! Move the stock aircraft to a folder outside the CFS2 folder then replace it with the new one. But you must rename everything (mdl, airfile, dp file and soundfile) so those file names match exact the files in the stock aircraft folder. In the “aircraft.cfg” file you must edit the name of the aircraft (for example: title=A6M2 Zero XY to title=A6M2 Zero, sim=A6M2_ZeroXY to sim=A6M2_Zero) It’s important that every name match the Stock files. (Same for the Ship files) if not it can cause “errors” when starting the sim.

For missing aircraft: which aircraft are missing? A list would be interesting, same for existing aircraft replacements.

I just like to remark, it’s a whole amount of work to make aircraft for the sim, sometimes I have to spend a few € to get books, especially for good drawings. And, I can’t charge for the aircraft because the software license doesn’t allow creating commercial models, so everything is freeware. (And: I don’t have the intend to create pay ware, for me it’s still fun but time consuming):)

I thank all of you for sharing your models, mods and repaints with the community. As for the old models it's at least nice to have something.

I have to echo what Wolfi posted. There are no stock CFS2 planes left that don't have much better models that can replace them. I know because I made it a mission to make models for the few remaining ones that didn't have good replacements, F6F-3 Hellcat, TBD devastator, N1K2J George. The rest have had good replacements for a long time. (Yes I get that the G4M1 is slightly different than the G4M2 but not by much).

I fact, as a modeler, I am running out of choices for ANY major WW2 aircraft that has not already been modeled pretty well by other authors.

That leaves the one-offs, prototypes, and experimental types.

Let'sl be honest, outside of Peperez and Marty, and maybe a couple of others, no one is really interested in those aircraft. As Wolfi said building a model is time consuming (sometimes up to 400+ hours) + the cost of getting decent reference materials (can be up to $100 US dollars for a rare book with good plans). Add to that, oddball planes don't very often have any decent reference material to work from. Again, because almost no one is interested in them, so no one makes book etc. for them.

So I have absolutely zero interest in building a Pe-8, Me 264, or Nakajima G8N1, etc, that will get a few downloads in return for all the effort and cost.

But here's the thing Perperez. You have some good CFS2 skills, so why not branch out into making models of the planes that interest you? Get a copy of GMAX, watch Milton Shupe's video GMAX tutorials and then give it a try. If you aren't successful, it's no big loss for you. But if you are successful, you can have the models that you are wanting.

By the way Captain Kurt, don't underestimate your huge talent to construct models. I envy you and Wolfi for this. I'm only an airfile maker,

I proposed some models here, but I think the Heinkel 177 four engine derivatives are good candidates (He274 and He277), the Junkers 288, Arado 440, Consolidated Vultee XP-54 (there's a very beautiful model for FS2004 that don't convert well to CFS2) and North America B-28.

Talking about existing models, I think your fantastic FW190A-3 could serve as a basis for versions A-5, A-6, A-7, A-9 and F-1.

Cheers

Pepe

PS: I did an airfile and DP for Erwin Welker's Me-264 derivatives. Unhappily. they need a complete animation revision.

Thanks for the kind words. I have to say I am not that great when in comes to air file work, so I give a bow in your direction for that skill.

With the exception of the G4M2, those are still in the category of obscure prototypes or experimental aircraft that almost no one cares about or would use. Which is my point.

Thanks for the compliment about my Fw-190A-3, but we already have good Team Daedalus A-5, A-6, A-7, A8, and F-2 versions. And the A-3 was loosely developed from our A-5 model.

Out of curiosity, what about the F8F Bearcat? I have found the Alphasim version, but it lacks a VC. I think there is also a FS9 model that has been converted, but that is not a 'native' CFS2 model. I think Warbird Lover also did one, but every time I have tried to grab it from simviation, the download page throws a 404 error, or the zip file has a CRC error (corrupted).

The RM_Alpha_F8F_Bearcat is available here and it does have a VC. Lindell's is also here. Search for Bearcat in the resources section and yo will find them.
