While the USS Essex air strike attacked Guam scout planes found an enemy convoy headed for Guam,13 transports with escorts.After the strike force landed they re-armed and attacked the convoy.17 enemy ships were sunk during the attacks.

Just reading the attack on Guam in Goodbye Darkness, by William Manchester. Make you sick what the Japanese did to the civilian population after they landed.

We didn't want another Saipan, so while waiting for Saipan to finish up we softened up Guam for days on end (and Tinian) with Marines sitting in Transports for many days waiting till they could finally get off. Tons of Ship Artillery and B-24's.....
