• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Offline for 2 days?

Lousy timing as my PSU died last Wed. morning and it was Friday afternoon when I got it back. Why oh why couldn't it have croaked when SOH will be offline?:kilroy:

Due to a breakdown of my telephone and online connection I have been offline for two and a half days last week!!! I tell you what I did: I paniced!!!:icon_lol:
 
Not meaning to be an A-Hole or stir up problems...but wasn't a new server purchased just a few months ago or so? I seem to remember using the money I was going to buy new shoes with to make a donation to help purchase the new server. Or am I on drugs?

PS: I still need new shoes....the ones I have are over a year old and have almost no padding left inside them.

I think you are correct...We did raise some money..but it was determined at the time to repair the server and not shut down..But with the rash or hackers and reboots its time it appears... The money is still there for new servers I would assume, as there is no major campaign to collect more...

It will be either 1 day or 2 days, they have to take this server offline and bring it to the new building and synk it to the new one, that will take 1 day, lol hehehe
than about 1 day to move the files and do all the security stuff, not to memtion the learning curve on the new server.
Today we are backing up the data bases so incase of the worst case, we will only loose a day or so of posts.
The move needs to be done, the last big attack 3 weeks ago put our hardware in not so good of condition. I have been working on the server for 3 weeks now starting at 1 AM every night and there is just no easy fix to hardware issues. Everything was checked and re checked and all tests point to the processor's or maybe motherboard. Both drives are new and the memory was just changed and all fans have been changed with new ones, also a new power supply was installed 3 days ago.
The server is crapping out under load is the bottom line.
We are lucky, we have been warned this time, lol.

Then you need to come to the Dark Side, install a copy of FS2004 and hang out in the Civil Sim forums....most of the people there have learned to walk erect and no longer drag their knuckles. There are still a good number of drooling, cigar chewing miscreants, but even they walk upright.
