Ok I am needing a good cloud replacement for the stock in my modern install of FS9. and I was wondering if anyone knew where i could pick up Bob Lyons water? I have it in my Silver wings package and i would like it my Modern install?

For clouds and sky color, I use the HDE Clouds package....it's free, very very easy on frame rates and can be found on Flightsim.com....don't know the zip name or the author's name however.

Water...Bill Lyons put out a number of water packages. Do a search on Flightsim for Bill Lyons and scroll through the very length results list...you will find around 5 different water packs/updates.

did I miss the link to feng's list? I am fighting it out with world textures for water and any new info would be great.

thanks fellers,

yeah I am thankful for the freeware community of FS, it being that kindo day here is the US of A.

cheerio!

Most highly recommend the Pablo Diaz's HDE set. I use Active Sky 6.5, but I still subbed Pablo's textures.

Thanks Tim! I ran the installer to a temp folder and picked out a couple of things that looked nice.

Okay, in all my years with FS2004, I have never updated environment anything as I did not want it to look different for new aircraft textures testing.

But, now is the time to get my FS9 up to speed.

Are REP and HDE mutually exclusive? Or, shall I install REP, then follow it with the HDE?

Milton, I've had REP installed since it came out, couldn't do without it.

When I installed the HDE clouds, I used Pablo's environmental sky textures and overwrote the REP sky textures after backing them up. It all works very well together. I would install REP first, then HDE Clouds.

For those who have installed REP, the readme says it must be installed into C:\Program Files to work. I do not have that DIR as I have it on D:. It then says the program will open. Does the program give you options on what to replace or does it just go and overwrite what you have? I have special water effects from several different programs to match what I remember from various places I have actually been and they work beautifully almost everywhere. I also use a custom envmap (or whatever it's called, can't remember now:kilroy:).

Well, I just took the leap and installed the high def cloud package. I was sitting on it for several weeks afraid to mess up a good thing on my flight sim set-up.
WOW!!!
You guys weren't kidding! Amazing, simply amazing.
By the way, I too have REP running in the background along with GEP and UT. Once again, just when I think it can't get any better...
LONG LIVE FS9!!!!!!!!

The good thing about REP is you can uncheck anything you do not wish installed. :applause:

I assume that it is the REP that changed the environment settings to make many things look nice, but it appears overdone in areas. Flat paint military schemes, textures that are set for no reflectivity etc show plenty now. Is there another that is toned down a bit.

The clouds, sun and sky look great though. :applause:

I tried the heavy duty cumulus and although FS ran it okay, there was a long wait to get to a menu item or FSNav with all the clouds and sliders full right. I backed off ultimately to the 256 textures. See the one shot when the sim decided to go belly up with a blue ground textures.

Also notice teh Howard 500 nacelles and chrome. On the more rear parts that should be near flat, you can see the streaks of the reflections passing thru. The chrome cowl rings look great though. :jump:

Here are few shots to demonstrate the point and to show off a bit.

Bill Lyons water can be found in either his Golden Hawaii or Classic Goose packs as a separate install.
