I've never seen a dumber dog that that beagle.
And dig?
I would come home from work and find 3 foot deep holes in my yard from where the beagle out of sheer anxiety while we were away from the house just dug holes to keep his mind off the fact that we were gone.
Snuffy, Beagles are really very smart dogs but they MUST be trained correctly from Day 1.
Our very first was a very demanding little bitch who just craved company.
'Duchess' (was she ever!) dug holes out of boredom but once she was firmly but gently disciplined, and graduated with honours from 'Puppy School' she was great.
Still demanded about 30 minutes of one-on-one 'Quality Time' when I walked through the door and (like all Beagles) a five kilometre walk each day but no more bad behaviour.
People forget that they are working dogs and respond to training with enthusiasm, equally they thrive on praise.
'Biggles' and 'Harry' are the 'Alpha Males' in our present lot, both get very shirty if they feel they are left out of any conversation, even to giving either of us a tap on the arm to acknowledge their inclusion.
Like I said, very smart little hounds indeed.
