Here are some screenshots from one of many recent test flights with one of the variants from the emersively superb Racers Expansion pack being developed for the Aircraft Factory F4U Corsair. The base of operations is Falcon409's fantastic Sherman Muni airport scenery.



















 
They are a impressive display aircraft , NZ,d Keith Skilling makes it look so simple on the high speed past , we were so fortunate to see the last well then only birdcage variant in the world and displayed at RNZAF Wigram for the 1995 VE day celebrations and a few shows afterwards .

Thanks for the showcase John! We're hoping for a release as soon as next week. Won't set dates just yet, and the fine tweaking continues, however...

I was really surprised when I discovered the wings were partly fabric covered on RNAS Yeovilton's "Time Capsule" Corsair: good to see this in the spec and bump mapping on this model! :salute:
 
The wing fabric is actually 3d model on this! Combined with the spec and bump as well...

I understand that you did the original flight model on this bird, but then Aircraft Factory changed, or replaced that before their release? Regardless, sometime ago I had acquired your model, it it has been used as the foundation for this renovation. Albeit several things, in combination with .air, .cfg, and .xml code are new, and or different. I have included your name in the credits for your work.

The F4U-1 through F4U-4 series Corsairs had much of the outer wing panels covered in fabric as well as the rudder and elevators. The F4U-5 was the first Corsair to have all metal surfaces.

I like the reflectivity of this paint. One downside of this model is that surface shine was not implemented, so a true glossy paint finish has been elusive.
 
Stansdds, the lack of surface shine in the model has been addressed with this addon, and you can see that new shine in the screenshots I posted. ; )

Up through at least the F4U-5 (and perhaps all Corsair production), the ailerons were wood-framed, plywood-skinned, and covered in fabric. Because they were skinned with plywood, you don't see the ribs as you do with the other fabric-covered sections.
 
Thanks for the kind words. I have always had a soft spot for the bent wing bird. I once asked what prompted my dad to get into Navy Flight Training in WWII, he said a poster of a guy in helmet and goggles in front of a Corsair!

I hope that this creates new interst in the F4U series. I once did a FD for the Aeroplane Heaven Birdcage, that was for CFS2, but was a really awesome aircraft for FS9. I never released that one as BAZ rightfully felt a freebie would interfere with his very nice FS9 Corsir packs.

The most time I spent developing was Carrier approach manners, which could be requiring of your full attention.

What does this expansion pack consist of? I would hope more than model shine and textures if it's payware.
 
It's a free expansion pack, but requires the original AF Corsair to be installed. It is immersively superb, and the root of the expansion pack cannot be seen by these screenshots - besides the eight new paint schemes, the expansion includes new flight dynamics (correct performance and flight handling), and code that makes the cylinder head temperature, the position of the cowl flaps, and the pressence of the drop tank (or lack there of), all matter to your airspeed and whether or not your engine blows up. It also has a new ADI system built in, with limited contents. The purpose of this expansion pack is to make the flying experience more accurate and make the aircraft more accurately competitive in a racing environment (working without fault in online multiplayer).

It would be an interesting project.... However something more famous such as the 'Rare Bear', would have much more market value.

There is an 18-page racing corsair(s) history that has also been written, covering the real-life representatives of each aircraft featured in this expansion. It will be included with this package also. Finished at the editor yesterday...
