Hmm. . . might be good for bringing air travel to Amazonian river towns !
Not sure that that would be a good idea. The Amazon River basin has a good number of fish species that jump...either to avoid predators or to obtain food. The Hatchetfish, which swim in schools that can contain several hundred fish, jump to avoid predators...and can leap 3 feet out of the water. While each fish is small, ranging in size from a US quarter to a US 50 cent piece, having a few hundred of those shiny silver fish sucked into a turbo jet at one time might bring and aircraft to a bad ending. The Arrowana, which can attain lengths between 3 and 5 feet, is a prolific jumper...often jumping as high as 8 feet from the water to grab insects and birds from tree branches. Having even a single fish of that size sucked into a jet engine would cause series machanical issues.
I have had Hatchetfish in my aquarium...and lost them one at a time due to them jumping throught even the smallest gap in the tank lids. Would love to have an Arrowana, but don't have the space or the money to set up a sufficiently sized tank...something in the 500 to 800 gallon range for a single specimen.

Most fish will not outgrow their environment. There's a growth hormone that shuts off when they sense the available territory is limited and restarts if they find a larger habitat. A 160gal tank will usually stop Arrowana at about 16"
