Trawling through several large boxes of photographs dating back decades I re-discovered this one.
Aussies ARE inventive, I'm fairly certain that the 'bi-plane' wing(s) appeared on this Matich A53 Repco F5000 well before MARCH wheeled out a similar car at the British GP.

Another odd aerodynamic tweak was a 'Tea Tray' front wing on an Elfin 600 F3 around the same time, that lasted about one corner on one lap one.

One from the 'Glen, try getting the present day F1 weenies to do this at all, never mind doing it with a smile!
I've turned a several hundred colour slides from Watkins Glen and Canada '79 as well as the 'Glen in 1978, I made good use of my Postings where possible.

They were real race cars, but I hated the skirt cars. Took the driving out of the hands of the driver, the bloody things were like slot cars. Having said that, I attended every US GP that race with them. :icon_lol:

Always thoroughly enjoyed the 'North American' rounds Caz.
Probably the event organisation run by enthusiasts leading to an almost 'Club Racing' atmosphere.
Sadly missing today, actually, I should say 'sadly missed after 1980-1981' given the rise of the 'Poison Dwarf'.
Could not agree more about GE cars, even the toughest drivers around (Alan Jones and Gilles for example) hated the physical hammering they received.
Another Chapman 'Brilliant Idea' bastardised by other teams.
I'm trawling my oversized archive of colour slides and film, going to digitise everything, at least I can index them.
And of course, the task of sorting some 10,000 B&W negatives must be done before they deteriorate.
Never a dull moment!

Lauda's Brabham was one of the first F1 models that I ever built (along with a 6 wheel Tyrrell too) :jump:
