One Hit Wonders?

Pauke! Pauke!

Here's one from the big 70's. Head East had other tunes but this was their bullet in the charts. "Never Been Any Reason" Oh yes! My friends, we're talking memories of California motel rooms with bottle openers on the wall and shinaniggins at the pool-side among other flash-backs that shall remain unmentioned.

1968 Henson Cargill. What a "one hit wonder" song!

Love it EasyEd. Was a big hit in the country charts. Thanks for the reply!

Generally a one hit wonder used to be a hit song from a group or performer that was the only song that made it "big" to the Billboard 100 charts. This is very broad and could be different for some regions and certain types of music. Let us say Rock and Roll vs. Country Music. What is a hit anyway? It used to be based on radio play, record sales and all kinds of hoopla. Now it's not so easy to say what is a hit. There are so many types of media that music is played and sold on. How can you keep track?

Uh..a good hit for PR & the Raiders in the 70's Lionheart but this little tune in the 60's was a screamer with a bullet in top 40 play. But then who really cares? It is all good. Thanks for the reply. Reservation brought PR & the Raiders back after at least 6 to 7 years in the wilderness.

Here's a unique example. This was a big hit on AM POP and Country but SSgt Barry Sadler did not have another hit that I know of.

This one slipped by me but I've heard much worse. "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" by Bubble Puppy. Bubble Puppy? Great name! You wonder if it's for real like Spinal Tap, Burnt Toast or Skank Box. It's 1969 and "Ladies and Gentlemen it's BUUBBBLE PUPPY!

I can't really remember PP. The tune and just a few of the lyrics just popped back into my head a couple of weeks ago. Took some searching to find that original again. Was a pretty big hit in UK I think...has been reworked a few times since under different names. I liked it's surging repeating beat.

Since we're doing one-hit wonders, how about the Tune Weavers' "Happy Happy Birthday Baby" from 1957, back in the doo-wop days? :)
