This is one man’s opinion shaped by one World War and a bunch of Police Actions including Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq and now Afghanistan.
It seems like the "Police Actions" take forever and ever, with an unacceptable loss of life and wounded.
For one thing there should be no political rules. No going across lines if this is where the enemy seeks refuge; I don’t care if it’s China, Pakistan some parallel, some river. If that’s where they’re hiding then go after them. The other thing is when you go to war, go at it as if you mean business. If it takes a million troops to win it then so be it. But to go in with a token 40,000 troops to fight against 150,000-armed men is foolishness.
President Obama is trying to make up his mind as to whether to commit more troops to Afghanistan. I believe that he has two decisions to make. Either commit enough troops in order to annihilate the enemy with orders if it takes running into Pakistan then go for it. If it will take a half million troops, so be it. But none of this token numbers that only get ground up holding ground for no good reason.
Otherwise, pull out of Afghanistan with our tail between our legs. Just, like the Russians did.
 
While I can understand the purely tactical logic in what you post - military operations don't exist in a vaccuum.

Soverign borders must be respected since failure to do so, as you've suggested. is an act of war in itself. There will be no "winning" in Afganistan. We should come out immediately since "other" tactics are available to us.

As a veteran of of several so-called 'Police Actions' (What a bloody crock!! A war is a war!) I take extreme offense at the put-down implied in this post.
An out of date atitude and disrespectful of all the men and women who have served in all of these Wars.
That aside, take it to the correct forum........:banghead:
 
I don't know about Oso. But I respect your opinion. Mine is borne out of seeing too many wars and I know what it takes to win them. We shouldn't start one unless we are commited 100% to win it.
