Sad it was never restored to flying condition.. I enjoyed seeing it many times. She was restored to immaculate static display though.

Dave, it was restored (over a great many years) and flown for several years, with numerous displays. All throughout this time it was owned by the Imperial War Museum, and it was only to be flown for a specified time period before it was to be retired to the museum as a static display anyway. In October 1997, at a Duxford display, the aircraft experienced an engine problem, and in the pilot's haste to get it on the ground, he came-in too fast, had to lift-off again to overly the M11, and came down in the field across the way - which wouldn't have been so bad, except that the aircraft flipped over on its back. On the "Black 6" Facebook page, they have photos from the first restoration (prior to it flying), as well as photos from its second restoration, following the crash. Following the crash and second restoration, the aircraft's retirement to static display was expedited/sealed.

Here is a great documentary featuring a lot of footage and information on the Bf-109G "Black 6" restoration. Also included in the film is footage of the Bf-109G-10 that has since been owned/operated by the Messerschmitt Stiftung in Germany. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MZznd754yE

Cheers John:encouragement:

If I remember correctly.. wasn't it an Air Chief Marshall flying it at the time?? I remember reports of him screaming at the fire crew not to use axes on it to get him out!! There's a man who fully appreciated the historic value of the aircraft:encouragement: Gad knows what the fire/rescue crew must have thought:biggrin-new:

Today (April 29) is my birthday so based on the favorable comments above (and it was 10% Off Tuesday at PC Aviator) I decided to treat myself and bought the A2A WoP II Bf-109E and also the Spitfire MkI. Here is a shot of the 109 off Point Loma in San Diego, my first flight. Both planes self-installed into FSX with no problem. My one question: Do these planes need the v1.2 upgrade from A2A or was that required just for the original CD boxed set?

Hi TARPSBird:wavey:

If my memory is working on all cylinders (a BIG IF).. no, you shouldn't need the 1.2 update. If everything looks ok (and it does in that shot) and there are no holes in the VC.. you're good to go. There's a note about the update on the A2A forums if you're unsure but from memory.. the update was for the WWII Fighters release and was incorporated into the WOP2 release.

EDIT: I've just had a look over at A2A and the WOP2 model was also patched. A user there asked if he needed the patch and Scott replied yes. I'm not sure where you might find if your version is already patched (it should be by now!!) but the patch is here http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=11065

EDIT#2: The FSX patch has no update number. The 1.2 patch looks like it was specifically for 2004. It's not very clear I'm afraid.

DaveB, thanks for the reply. Actually my first pic was the Just Flight 109E, I forgot that I had it and selected it by mistake.
The current pic is the A2A 109. I'm still not clear on the patches. Everything looks OK on the 109 except that clouds and ground objects do not show up through the prop arc animation. Same with the Spitfire. So... maybe I DO need to install the fix???

Edit: Both aircraft have already been updated to v1.2 as downloads, so all you need for both the 109 and the Spit are the FSX fixes. The fixes correct the prop masking issue and some other stuff as well. I just had to read further, LOL.

Hello Mate:wavey:

In that case.. yes.. I'd give it a go. The A2A site isn't particularly clear about this and none of the patches are dated.. eg, if bought before 'X' you need the patch.. if bought after 'X'.. you don't!! The patch I highlighted is specifically for the FSX WOP2 model so if you're seeing the issues you describe, it's certainly worth trying it. I don't get that with the WWII Fighters 109 patched to FSX;)

I've just had a look at this again (the 109) to make sure. I've put it in front of trees and buildings and the prop is showing in front of both.. not disappearing. Noting this is the original 2004 WWII Fighters patched to FSX with the A2A patch.. I honestly can't see why the later WOP2 FSX release suffers prop issues but there you go. Go with the FSX patch mate;)

DaveB, I updated both aircraft with the FSX fixes and all is well. No more prop masking problem which was the only visual issue I had. I wish I would have gotten the WWII Fighters package when it first came out, that A6M5 Zero would have been nice to have. Thanks again for your comments. :encouragement:

Glad you got it sorted in the end:encouragement:

Yeah.. the WWII Fighters was a good set for sure. I'm not exactly sure of the reasons why but the Zero never got the FSX patch treatment. Maybe it was an old FSDS2 model?? I really don't know. It works ok in FSX as most FS9 models do with the usual prop/glass issues. All the others in the set were patched though making it good value.

Nice paint Cees;)

No luv for the JF 109-E:wavey:

Trop version......

It comes with the JF BoB package.:wiggle:

Joe

It seems to me the landing gear doors of the JF Me109 are in the wrong color, the inside I mean. These were not white, never seen that before. I asked JF if this is gone unnoticed, got no answer as yet.

You can't go wrong with the 109. Any of them A2A FR or JF.
