I just finished reading "Operation Ppaerclip" a new (2014) book revealing recently released US Government files concerning the the importing of Nazi scientists for the rocket, biological and chemical weapons programs. It is very disturbing to say the least.

This program was justified in 1945 to try to stay ahead, or just keep pace with the USSR involved in the same projects. The majority of the "imported" scientists were Nazi Pary members and in many cases involved in the extermination camps and industries working their slave laborers to death.

The D Day invasion timing was very important to keep some of the "advances" in killing to be used. There was a stockpile of a new nerve gas, unknown to the allies and hundreds of thousands of artillery shells filled with it discovered. That Hitler in the final days did not use this or the biological weapons in the Nazi arsenal is amazing considering the inhumane treatment of their prisoners and conquered civilians.

Paperclip went far beyond the scope of the rocket program. The program was instrumental in smuggling high level former Nazis into every level of US infrastructure including intelligence, banking and industry. The list of household names directly associated with this operation would astound you. The program continued for quite a few years following the demise of the Reich. Bear in mind that a number of prominent US corporations and banks held interests in Germany throughout WWII and Hitler was on the cover of Time Magazine three times in the early years prior to the war.
