Operaton Pedestal released!

Nik112,

Probably not. RAF Vs Regia Aeronautica will be released this week. I almost had this done yesterday, but I broke a cardinal rule of mission building when working on the layout for Piraeus harbor, and forgot to save what I was doing. I had the ships all placed at the docks, and was putting in the AA guns, when I zoomed in to place something and the game went into a CTD fit on me.

In short, I lost about seventy-five minutes' worth of work. I'm still miffed about that, but I'll do it again this week. Once I modify the GSL layout for Athens, I'll be able to modify my MTO GSL harbor package, the Hellas campaign, Fleet Air Arm, and release the RAF vs Regia Aeronautica campaign, which has been fully beta-tested by kdriver, Discus, and misson.

I'll also update by Europe GSL package and the "Heinkels" campaign to reflect the GSL harbor at Andalsnes, Norway.

Because I slaved so long on the details of Pedestal, I'm not exactly frothing at the mouth to go through it again at the moment. To illustrate why these types of missions take me so long, here is an example, for a different campaign I've had under tight security. Take a look at the dynamic elements and the structure of it in Mission Builder.

I was working on this campaign project (there are two other sides to it) last summer, but 486_Col_Wolf asked me to complete the German side to the Battle of Britain, so I worked on that instead and left the desert behind. I hath returned, and will try to complete it this summer, along with the Balkans and Mezzagosto.

Thanks Rami
Take your time.

cheers:guinness:

Rami,

for some reason the freighters and merchant ships still turn north, even though I used the files from your package.
However, I found another solution: I´m now using the DPs from the AF ship upgrade packages. With these files, all ships stay in formation.

There´s one small thing I noticed in the readme: The link to the VN USS Indianapolis is missing.

Thanks again for your great work!

Wolfgang

Skylane,

That's odd, those didn't work for me. I'll fix the readme for the USS Indianapolis. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips Skylane. I swapped in Pen32Win's dps to test them this PM, when I get home and scarfed up the VN Indianapolis. Question: ..."work/didn't work." Did you guys remember to delete the cdps after swapping out dps? Thanks again Rami!

BTW: How necessary is it to have that Brit Radio Calls download? You remember that problem I have of downloading from Simviation? Guess what...

Good evening,

I corrected the readme and included the missing ship. The download is in the same place. Shadow Wolf, it appears you found a solution to your download issue.

Other updates, at my site and here at SOH include...

Rami's GSL ports (Europe) - Included now is a GSL harbor at Andalsnes.
Rami's GSL ports (Mediterranean) - Included now are GSL harbors at Athens, (Piraeus) Khalkis, Thessaloniki, and Volos.

Heinkels! (This includes the harbor at Andalsnes)
Fleet Air Arm (This includes a new GSL harbor at Valona)

Operation Exporter (Vichy) - This is new, and the missions use the updated airfields by Achim.
Italians in War - This is new to the CFS2 library.

I'll finish up Hellas and Phase I of the Balkans project in the next couple of days.

Loading error

I ran up the first mission this AM and right away got an error. It seems the Dewoitine D-520 was "not found in the library" and the mission "might be corrupted). Checking, I found the WD_D520 is in my Aircraft folder, the gauges installed and all the parts were where they should be (Sound, Texture etc). Just in case, I reinstalled it from a fresh download and I tried to load the mission again with the same result. Any suggestions?

Shadow Wolf,

Go into the first mission, and rename the "Dewoitine D-520" to "WD_D520." That will fix the issue. I made the correction and re-uploaded it.

I had the same problem and messages with the MS 406. I checked and the download/installed aircraft is named MS 406_fr. I changed the folder name and took the _fr off the air and dp files and fixed the cfg. It worked fine then.

It's been a while and I'm kinda rusty but I flew the mission okay.

Shadow Wolf 07,

I'm on top of this, and I just fixed it. The upload is in the same place.

#2 down at last!

Rami: I finally got through mission 2 but had to use some tricks. I had a few "interesting glitches:" at the last warped to waypoint I was about 10 miles astern of the Convoy/TF at about 10,000 ft and was prompted to warp again to a point 8 miles out and at 5,000. I think you added one warp too many. When approaching the carrier for landing the distance read-off was apparently from the immediate trailing carrier, not my base. Also, the message "Mission Over" flashed in white lettering and in blue lettering it flashed "Press X to end mission." I continued my approach but never saw the familiar "You may land or press X to end mission." I have more for you but I'll save it until we can talk on Skype. :mix-smi:

The next mission is with the Fairey Albacore and should be a challenge.

Shadow Wolf,

I deliberately set the missions up so you have to LAND on the carrier, there is no easy "cop-out."

I flew mission 3 and everything went well... except for my landing. I crashed and burned. So I'll fly it again. I wish the Albacore had a checklist, so I would know the right approach speed.

B]FYI:[/B] when I was circling back around, I noticed that the SS Ohio had turned and was sailing north! When I do the mission again, I'll try it with Pen32Win's optional dp.
